One of the most anticipated new gTLD domain extensions .London, now has 15,038 domain names registered, counting Sunrise registrations and now registrations granted to companies with a .London presence who had priorty to register .London domains.
.London is now in 23rd place in terms of number of registered new gTLD’s domain names according to nTLDstats.com
DomainMonster.com, part of the Host Europe Group is the largest registrar of .London domains todate, with over 62% of all registrations.
Tucows.com is the second largest registrar of .London domains with over 21% of all registrations.
Those are the only two registrars that have registered more than 1,000 .London domain names.
.London does not go into general availability until September 9th at 11:00 UTC.
You can read more about the extension including the registrars, where you can registered a .London web address here
Domainmonster.com is charging £34.99 which equates to just over $58 for a pre-registration for a .London domain name but of course prices vary by Registrar.
The registrations added to the zone file appear to reflect Sunrise applications and least partially the domain names registered during the .London priority period under which:
Anybody with a presence in London or an interest in London is able to apply for Dot London domain names.
Allocation of names applied for during the first phase depend on a priority ranking. The following is the priority ranking of customers:
- Those having a London address AND a right to a name (e.g. it matches their business name)
- Those having a London address for any name
- Those without a presence in London
Where there is more than one application for a name those applicants will be validated by an external validation agent. If, after validation, multiple applicants for the same domain name end up in the highest priority ranking then an auction process will be used to determine who will get the domain name.
Typically domain names subject to auctions are not placed into the zone file until the auction have ended.

And still I sit twiddling my thumbs to find out if I even have a shot at what I applied for…kind of wonder exactly how many more are to be added.

If you’ve not received a Validation Request email then you probably haven’t had opposition. My registrar has started confirming successful registrations. Was a waiting game to see if challenged. My stats: applied for 32, awarded 9 (unchallenged), 23 challenged & for auction. – but only 3 accessible & registered atm.
