ntldstats.com, has added parking stats to its system, both overall and by each new gTLD extension.
Overall ntldstats says that just over 80% of all new gTLD domain names are parked.
Last week Verisign announced as of June 29th only 3% of all new gTLD resolved to “business websites” which I assume by definition excludes personal websites and which may account for the difference.
Parked domains are defined on the site as any domains which has a traditional parked page which also seems to include registrar placeholders as well as any non-resolving site and those “without content”, those without a DNS record, and those being redirected to another domain.
ntldstats.com has a break down for each category which makes a site “parked”, a pretty impressive piece of work by our friends at ntldstats.com
Overall out of almost 1.9 million new gTLD domain name registered, 80.47 percent are going to a parked page.
Additionally, ntldstats is showing the number and percentage of parked domain names for each new gTLD extension.
For example, .in the case of .XYZ, which is leading all new gTLD in the numbers of domain registrations with over 444,000 domain names, the service says over 94% of all of these domain names are parked or 419,914 domain names, so well over the total average.
However .XYZ is not the new gTLD with the highest percentage of parked domains, more about that below the chart.
In the case of second most registered new gTLD, .Berlin, over 85% of all of the domain names are parked.
.Club which is the third most registered extension, but the 1st in terms of having not given away any free domains, over 78% of the domain names are parked.
Here is the percentage of “parked” domain names for each of the top 30 new gTLD domain Extensions (if you want to see the details for each click on the link)

If you are wondering new gTLD extensions have the least amount of parked domains, .Buzz is at just over 44%; .Webcam is just over 47% and .Moe has just less than 50%
Actually those are the only three new gTLD extensions which have a parking rate under 50%.
The highest parked extension is .voting at over 96%. You might remember we noted the day after launch we wrote a post noting that over 97% of all of the domains registered in .voting were registered by a company associated to the registry,
Rob says
Just a quick one guys – .webcam is at less than 50% also, just 47.53%. We’re seeing really innovative ways of using this extension which is why I was surprised not to see it ranking well in terms of parked traffic.
FYI. we’re also seeing the name rank very well (no.1 last I checked) for some competitive search terms in Google (among other search engines).
John McCormac says
Looks rather simplistic and misleading. The mistake is in considering all new gTLDs as a single TLD.
leo says
Fun thing I noticed: the back-end registry Neustar Inc. registered yesterday all the names that were on the collision lists for all the TLDs it operates (.club, .webcam, .uno, .buzz, .trade, .moe, …), and put up a default IIS7 page on every single one of these domains.
The question is, are they doing it because they are planning on releasing the collision names to the public, or because they want to buff up their registration numbers and lessen their percentage of parked domains?
dotstrategy says
Starting the ICANN approved process for releasing the collision names to the public. This is a welcomed development for the .BUZZ registry.
Michael Berkens says
Leo
The numbers don’t reflect that volume of registration for one.
There are millions of domain names in collision can you give me some examples?
leo says
Any from the TLDs I mentioned above, 1.trade, agx55zx9pi6qi.webcam, psp.club, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.buzz to name a few.
ntldstats.com is one day late on the stats I believe, so the numbers should show up there later today or tomorrow
Anyway dotstrategy replied above so I guess I got my answer 🙂
John McCormac says
The zonefiles were not updated on the CZDS until around 0800 this morning. Anyone checking for zonefiles earlier than that would have just got the zonefiles for yesterday again.
Michael Berkens says
But I’m looking at some of these domain names and they are not “really registered”
for example when I go a live search for a domain “registered” today
0.college
DOMAIN NOT FOUND
Now if I search for nic.college I get this:
michaelpretina2:~ michael$ whois nic.college

John McCormac says
Looks like some kind of strange WHOIS server overlap as Centralnic appears to be providing the backend for both XYZ and COLLEGE gTLDs.
Michael Berkens says
Centralnic is the backend provider for .xyz, .college, .ink and .wiki just to start and there are a ton of these “registrations” .club has a ton too but none of the domains pull a whois record, trying to figure it out
John McCormac says
I’m not sure that single character or two character domains are permitted in the new gTLDs yet. They may be reserved domains.

Michael Berkens says
John
Not only are one character new gTLD’s permitted but they have been sold and even resold and are in use
http://www.domaininvesting.com/media-options-acquires-g-holdings/
John McCormac says
Well the new gTLDs need all the good news they can get, Michael,
It is going to add an extra level of complexity to processing the zonefiles.
