The total number of new domain extension (gTLD) registrations topped 1.3 Million overnight at ntldstats.com.
According to ntldstats.com there are just about 1,310,000 new gTLD registered
.XYZ is now also topped 200,000 registrations sitting at 208,792 registrations.
86.5% of all .XYZ registrations or over 180,600 are at Network Solutions which continues to give free .XYZ domain names to certain customers who do not opt out of the free domain offer. over 90% of all Network Solutions new gTLD registration are in .XYZ.
That means there are over 28,000 .XYZ domain names not registered at NetSol.
I noticed that on June 23rd over 5,000 .XYZ domain names were registered at the Japanese Registrar GMO Internet. which is also a new gTLD registry.
GMO has only registered a little over 12,000 new gTLD domain names in all new gTLD extensions so the one day total of over 5,000 registrations for .XYZ domains at GMO is very strange. Matter of fact of the 12,000 new gTLD registrations at GMO, over 9,000 are .XYZ registration or just about 75% of all its new gTLD registrations.
.Berlin which had what amounted to a two day free domain giveaway is sitting as the 2nd most registered domain, at over 140,000 domain names but has only picked up around 2,000 registrations since it stopped the free domain giveaway.
.Club is still sitting in third place without any free domain giveaways breaking through the 75,000 domain mark.
.Guru is in 4th place with over 63,000 registrations.
Its a long way down to number 5 .photography which has more than 39,000 registrations.
There are now 10 new gTLD extension with 25,000 or more registrations, 17 with more than 15,000, 26 with 10,000 or more, and 57 with 5,000 or more.
44 fully launched new gTLD extension have less than 2,500 registrations.

Hello MHB,
Correct me if I am wrong? But I seem to remember that back in the day .COM addresses were free initially. So whats the big deal about being free initially?

The issue for me on .XYZ its one thing to offer free registrations and have people go to a registrar and register the domain of their choice.
Its a whole different thing to push a domain into domain holders accounts without them asking for the domain.

Hello Back,
We understand your discriminating point. Such is the new Wild West, So Be It.

Beyond that point Jeff anytime I talk about totals of new gTLD’s in relation to each other, I have to distinguish between paid registrations and free registrations just for the sake of clarity and full disclosure

For a domain investor, domain registration stats are meaningless if a significant percentage of them are being given away. What matters much more are aftermarket sales statistics – end users who are paying high $XXX or more for keywords in that TLD. If end users are not paying more than $50 for domains in a TLD, why invest in that TLD – particularly if renewals are premium?
