I was just reviewing RegistrarStats.com and noticed at 3,933 we deleted yesterday at the registry.
Like .com domain names new gTLD domain names have a five day grace period in which they can be deleted.
Not sure whether these are “free” domain names that were deleted or paid for .Berlin domains that were deleted once the free period started.
Certainly if you paid for a .Berlin registration the days before the free domain promotion went live, you would not be a happy camper.
I certainly would not.
Image paying for something that is free the next day?
Anyway according to RegistrarStats.com the .Berlin registry gained some 800+ registrations yesterday or as of the last time that service updated the zone files but had a net loss of registration of over 3,000 domains and sits at 134,608 registrations.

And the beat goes on. I hope somebody is writing all this down. Crazy times.

This is a little unclear: “noticed at 3,933 we deleted yesterday at the registry.”. The bulk of the deletions (3900) were hosted on VARIOMEDIA.DE and were short number domains. They look like freebies being deleted and they are no longer in the WHOIS.
