Famous Four Media, the registry operator for Domain Venture Partners, announced today that they were the winning bidders at the private new gTLD auctions for the domain nams.RACING and .CRICKET.
Both domain extensions will be added to the portfolio of 17 registries in which Domain Venture Partners has ownership.
The other applicants for .Cricket were Top Level Domain Holdings Limited (Minds + Machines) and Donuts.
The other applicants for .Racing were Donuts and Uniregistry.
There were several other private auctions held last week and Uniregistry already announced which new gTLD strings they won at auction.
Minds + Machines is a public company and we should see a press release from them this week regarding what they won and lost in last week private auctions and what there total revenue or cost was from the auctions.
Andy Churley of Famous Four Media is quoted as saying; “This re-birth of the Internet means that website owners have the opportunity to get highly descriptive domain names such as www.motor.racing, www.testmatch.cricket before anyone else does.
Descriptive domain names such as .CRICKET and .RACING help website owners attract targeted traffic to their sites and provide a focal point online for industries, sports, geographies and looser affiliated groups.”
“With over 1.7 million people playing cricket in the UK alone and more than 100 member countries belonging to the International Cricket Council the sport has significant global reach. It is believed that when India’s national side plays a big game, an estimated 400m in India watch on television. There’s a lot of passion about .CRICKET! That passion is rivalled by the racing fraternity whether it’s horses, cars, dogs, boats, planes, bikes or on foot. If you are involved in, a fan of, or associated with racing in any of its forms you will find a home online in .RACING.”
