looks like some domainer registered the .com
50 to dumb to register both .club and .com
Richard S says
Why would they register .com, it is supposedly dead no?

50 cent does nothing for free. Do you really think he chose a .club because he thinks its a great extension. It’s all about the money just curious what he’s getting paid to promote this extension.
Grim says
Probably a lot more than GoDaddy paid the “Puppets By Gwen” lady to be their Superbowl spokesperson.
Braden Pollock says
Of course he got paid. Not sure how that makes a difference. I’m sure it’s a great deal for both parties.
I’m looking fwd to the launch party. It’s going to be a great time.
todd says
“Rapper 50 Cent Picks A .Club Domain To Launch His Fan Site: 50inDa.Club”
Of course it makes a difference. The story creates the hype like he chose this extension but he got paid to choose this extension. Big difference.
Richard S says
Not sure how it makes a difference if he got paid?
Hip hop is about fads that come, and go, you think his followers care about domain names? It matters because if he actually thought it was a good idea he would push it more, like vitamin water which he had ownership in.
Looks like you care more about the party than the extension, which case you would be in the 99 percentile with the others riding the party wave. Just like .xyz, anyone is afraid to ask the real questions, more concerned about not getting an invite. Truth me told… Club has 37,843 registrations … Even 40,000 is a stretch
cmac says
@Braden, it makes a difference because its just another promo. Not a real user.
Braden Pollock says
The point is that Vitamin Water did well based, in part, on his involvement. Did his fans care that he received 10% for his involvement? I doubt it they knew or cared. Same for .club. His involvement will provide exposure for .club. His fans won’t be asking how much he was paid before they visit his site.
ontheinterweb says
here is how this sorta new gTLD argument goes:
registry does nothing and domainer says: they’re not promoting good enough.
registry promotes certain ways and domainer says: no fair, they’re spending money on promoting. its not real!
Domenclature.com says
Both could happen simultaneously.
Richard S says
So the consensus is fiddy cents thinks a .club is relevant I’m into the gangsta rap scene, so I need a .club soe and my homies can kick it online like fifty cents. You are not giving America’s youth any credit, they are the smarter generation that bounce of websites, just like the same users will be bouncing off the .com of this name.
The fact he received a percentage he was out there hustling it when he was relevant, he is not such a big deal anymore as you may think.
George Kirikos says
This reminds me of the Justin Timberlake deal with MySpace, and the impact it had on reviving Myspace’s fortunes……(i.e. non-impact).
cnn.si & fbnewswi.re says
why not 50cent.club ?
Ramahn says
50 is a business man. This is a business move. It has nothing to do with providing web space for his fans. He already has a dot com
site.
Richard nailed it. He isn’t really relevant anymore. The shelf life of most rappers isnt very long. Fiddy knew this a long time ago and did things to set himself up for tv, movies, books, racing/cars, sports supplements, etc. Smart.
Maybe he’ll get a dot Rich domain. Get.rich, there you go.

Richard
I’ll let him know what you think.
If you care to share your phone number maybe he will give you a call.
Richard S says
Berkens you really think 50 cents wants to up his street cred by hanging out with the .club crew, sign the cheque, and lets see how long he stays until he blows it for a real party. I am sorry for being skeptical but I will agree to disagree since your a paid consultant to .club, being impartial is hard to do. How many .clubs did you register care to share?
Marcio Rocon says
I did not think very catchy name! Prefer 50cent.club.
Michael Berkens says
Richard
I actually meet him about 10 years ago he was staying at the same hotel Judi, I and Bandit we’re staying, he seemed like an Ok guy and took a minute to pet the dog.
Don’t know what the .club/50 cent deal is, actually didn’t find out about it until today when I got the PR.
Although we are here to consult with they don’t run everything buy us.
I actually placed the domain name inthe.club on the reserved .club reminded of them that today which is a domain I also like better
Michael Berkens says
Richard
Also 50 is way beyond street cred and being a rapper he is an actor and has made more on his share of vitamin water than selling music.
He is a pretty sharp guy and the east coast/west coast beef is old and cold.
Its a different world Dr. Dre, Pharrell, Sean Combs, Jay Z and the list goes on and on, these guys are businessmen expanding their interested financial and otherwise well beyond just as writers producers and artists.

Sony already has 50cent.com
He already has a central location for fans at thisis50.com
And he hasn’t had a hit in awhile, low point of popularity.
He did good with the water, the headphones trying to mimic Dr. Dre. not so much
todd says
50 cent made the majority of his wealth from the sale of Vitamin Water. His take was 100 million. He tried to follow Dr Dre in the headphone market. 50 got involved with a headphone maker but decided instead of investing in the company that he would make an exact copy of those headphones. Judge last month awarded that 50 cent has to pay the headphone maker 16 million in damages.
Ramahn says
…..meanwhile Dr. Dre is busy depositing his 2.3Billion check in the bank. Thanks Apple.
todd says
Dr. Dre’s story is incredible. When they said straight outta Compton they weren’t kidding. Imagine growing up in Compton with nothing and now being a billionaire. A real rags to riches story.
Ramahn says
Dre is another business man, but also makes me wonder the impact Shug Knight passing had on him. But yes, its a great story. Most these guys…Dre, 50, Ice Tea, Cube, etc all saw the writing on the way long before Nas said “hip hop is dead” and got their affairs in order to plant the seeds of tv, movies, clothing, etc. Very smart.
It’s stories like this, young kids need to read about and model after. Dre took the advantage of consumer demand, technology and created a sound business/product. More stories like this and less stories about race, gender orientation and wealth hating please. Oh and more tv shows like Shark Tank.
