Google.com has just announced that anyone in the United States can buy Google Glass on Tuesday April 15th.
Up to now to purchase Google Glass you needed an invite. However on Tuesday a limited number of Google Glass will be sold to anyone in the United States for the normal price of $1,500.
If your asking, Yes I did receive an invite, but no I didn’t buy Google Glass up to now and don’t plan on buying it this week either.
I have seen people wearing them out in the wild and personally I don’t get it.
People who I have seen wear them, make very strange head movements to make the Glasses to turn on, top start taping video, to stop and to engage in other functions.
It all looks very weird to me.
As far as the taping function which seems to be the big attraction of Google Glass I must led a very boring life as there are very few times in a given year of my life that I would actually want to tape and then watch back except for one particular activity, but those types of videos always seem to wind up online for all to see.
Here is the announcement:
“We’re seeking new Explorers and we’re opening up some spots in the Glass Explorer Program.
Any adult in the US can become an Explorer by visiting our site and purchasing Glass … including you!
This isn’t the same Glass you saw last April.
In the past year, we’ve released nine software updates, 42 Glassware apps, iOS support, prescription frames, and more, all largely shaped by feedback from our Explorers.
The Explorer bundle costs $1,500 + tax and includes Glass, charger, pouch, mono earbud, and your choice of a shade or a frame for no additional charge.
Check out the styles of frames and shades and pick your favorite.
Spots are limited, so mark your calendar if you want to get in.
Sorry, you can’t pre-purchase, but you can find us on Tuesday at Google.com/glass.

In my opinion the future will be “hands free-heads up”. The mobile phone will just be the transmitter. Words and domain names will be much more important since we are headed for a more virtual world. I think Glass is the entryway device to start changing social habits. I know there will be a lot of resistance for a few years but it is inevitably where we are headed. I will buy one and start adapting-albeit away from the public 😉
I can think of many new applications for its use especially in Travel.
