One of the great domain names in the world, Chat.com was just sold.
The domain name was owned by CBS Interactive, Inc. which acquired the domain it when it purchased Cnet in June 2008.
We reported last year that the company sold another killer domain it acquired in the Cnet.com deal, Events.com
The deal was co-brokered by the Domain Hall of Fame Nominee Larry Fischer of GetYourDomain.com and digital DNA.
The domain now under under privacy and the sale is under NDA.
The buyer of the domain which does not want to be identified told TheDomains.com:
“”We will use Chat.com to promote our new video chat plugin which other webmasters can embed into their existing websites and share the revenue that it generates. Acquiring Chat.com gives us an instant globally recognized brand with existing traffic, and we are really excited to have the opportunity to use this world class domain to showcase our work.”
I should point out that whatever the price of the domain and knowing that the seller was CBS and that Fairwinds and Mr. Fischer were involved it was not cheap the domain most likely will get more valuable as there are 4 applicants for the New gTLD .Chat; Donuts, Famous Four, Radix and Jay Westerdal’s Top Level Spectrum, Inc..
Here is how Chat.com describes the site:
“”Chat.com is a free live video chat site for adults where people from around the world come to hang out and make new friends. Interesting an earlier competitor paid a tidy sum for I believe Scott Day’s BlueJeans.com which Estibot and most domainers would never see it as it’s become today (very much like the intention of Char). They say: So what’s up with our name?
Blue Jeans is something to love.
Your favorite blue jeans are versatile, hard-working, functional — something you can’t imagine living without. It’s the same experience we create for your meetings. Blue Jeans is the fabric that ties together all your video conferencing needs.
