14K of Enom’s 23K new gTLD Registrations Are From NameCheap

March 7, 2014 by Michael Berkens

Yesterday we reported on the top 20 domain name registrars in terms of new gTLD domain name registrations.

The domain name registrar in second place on the list was Enom with 23,167 new gTLD domain name registrations.

Today the CEO fo NameCheap.com Richard Kirkendall told TheDomains.com that of the 23K domain name registrations of Enom.com, NameCheap.com accounts for over 14,000 of them.

Namecheap.com is a reller of Enom so its totals are included in Enom’s official totals.

Based on 14,000 registration NameCheap.com would be the 2nd largest new gTLD registrar in the world giving it 6.5% of the new gTLD market.

Enom.com without NameCheap.com would account for only 9,000 domain names placing it 5th on the top 20 list of domain name registrars of new gTLD domain names, right ahead of Name.com

Both Enom.com and name.com are owned by Demand Media, Inc. (DMD) which is doing a lot better than another publicly traded company Web.com (WWWW) whose two largest registrars NetworkSolutions.com and Register.com having a total of about 5,000 new gTLD domain registrations.

    I can completely see why…

If 90%+ of the current generic string market is made up of domainers and they’re the lowest cost registrar for the current top selling names, which include

then namecheap and name.com should be fighting for the top position.

keep costs low in hopes of one day selling these names to the greater fool.

Little do these domainers know that the bag will explode if they hold it for too long.

    Tick…Toc…Tick…Toc…the timer is set…T-Minus ?:??
