GoDaddy, today announced its partnership with Spree Commerce, a leading open source platform for e-commerce.
The goal of the partnership is to provide the easiest, most flexible and extensible e-commerce platform for small businesses. This is a key step in GoDaddy’s continued commitment to democratize technology for small businesses, enabling them to succeed online.
“Many of our customers do not have the technical expertise to build a successful online store, yet they all want to serve their customers who are increasingly online and mobile,” said GoDaddy Head of Product for Presence and Commerce Sandeep Grover. “With GoDaddy, our vision is to make it simple for any small business to create an eye-catching store that will stand out and help them sell more. With Spree Commerce on the back-end, we’ll be translating the great open-source work of the Spree community into a store experience available to the masses.”
Providing a differentiated solution in e-commerce is a key focus for GoDaddy.
Forrester estimates the overall e-commerce segment to grow to $370 billion by 2017.
There are more than 4-5 million small businesses transacting online today, with an additional hundreds of thousands stepping into the e-commerce business each year.
By focusing on e-commerce, GoDaddy hopes to bring more businesses online and help accelerate this trend.

By working with Spree Commerce, GoDaddy builds on an industry-leading open-source ecommerce platform. In addition to leveraging over 5,000 source code contributions, GoDaddy is committing to contribute back to the Spree open-source community.
The new Online Store built on Spree Commerce will be available in the spring of 2014.
In addition e-commerce solutions, small business owners can also utilize GoDaddy’s full set of offerings, which range from domain names and Website Builder tools and services that help customers Get Found online, to personalized email addresses with Microsoft Office 365 compatibility and more.
