Joseph Peterson says
This money flows from domainers to registrars and registries — and away from domainers.
If anybody is noticing a slowdown in wholesale domainer-to-domainer purchases, then you have only to look at how capital is being diverted to speculation on vanity extensions.
Most of these .guru domains won’t turn a profit.
It’s ironic, but domainers are shooting themselves in the foot.
Konstantinos Zournas says
All domains are owned from a single guy from Texas that will not renew a single one of the next year. Including the moronic gurudomainnamesforsale.guru.
Kate says
I am speechless.
New TLDs are really fool’s gold.
John Berryhill says
This guy is screaming “make an example out of me.”
Unreal.
Brad Mugford says
I have heard over and over again how TM infringement is not going to be a major problem with new extensions…
That is clearly not the case. I guess the theory does not match the reality.
Brad
DomainNameAddresses.com says
How did he get all those trademark domains without redflags and security by the registrars apparently in place not going off like a siren? Frank? Monte? anyone? know?
Ramahn says
It really is worse than I thought it would be. You have to at least give the guy credit for using a .guru domain though. TIC
DomainNameAddresses.com says
CocaCola, GoldmanSachs, NeimanMarcus didnt rush to get the first New gtlds on the market?
Michael Berkens says
DomainNameAddresses.com
So the registrars don’t have the authority to block a registration.
If a attempted registration matches a trademark in the Trademark Clearing House the registrar will let the person trying to register the domain know but the registrant can click a box acknowledge receipt of the information that his registration may likely be infringing on a trademark but the registrant can click through and buy it
DomainNameAddresses.com says
oh. thanks Mike.
DomainNameAddresses.com says
congrats on Malls.com
Jeff Schneider says
(Why Register a .COM?) Your Blog is full of reasons to ask
(Why aren’t You Registering a .COM) or buying a .COM from a current .COM registrant ?

Steven Sikes says
Uhmm, looks like he forgot to get “DumbStarbucks.guru.”
Yup, this gonna be a long movie. Make that a jumbo Popcorn, please.
Jeff Schneider says
The worlds most successful Global Retailers such as Alibaba and Amazon and other newcomers, will see equally successful futures, if they quit listening to their Search Engine Centric Marketing Teams and rely more on .COM URL-Centric Marketing. Those who rely on the .COM Business Model, which remains the Point of Purchase Epicenter to the Worlds Largest Consumer Base, will hold the key to the ( Holy Grail of Mass Marketing ).
The Era of SEO Manipulated Search Engine Marketing is waning and giving way to recycling back to identifiable and meaningfull Online Business Names.
Early in The SEO Manipulated search Engine Era a name like Google or yahoo or aviya or ————- were able to be found through Search Engine Marketing because the channels for doing so were functional to a limited degree. This is not the case today.
The Google Search Engine alone has the data of 30 trillion Unique websites, dumped into its massively overloaded data base, causing a tremendously dysfunctional process for finding anyones Online Business called(Marketing Saturation Obsolescence)
http://www.businessinsider.com/500m-things-google-has-never-heard-of-2013-5#ixzz2TK2lnz1R
The future holds nothing but more Market saturating dumps of Bastardized and manipulated data to the already overloaded Search Engine Model, increasing its already Dysfunctional Marketing Platform.
We say we are going full circle back to meaningful Online business names, such as International Business Machines, General motors, Ford, American telephone &Telegraph, .SalesForce, FaceBook, YouTube, Care.com, WEB.com , Etc. Etc.
Ah we know the first comment will be oh you mean IBM,GM,ATT, the truncated versions. Yes you can truncate Meaningfull names that are recognizable, but how about truncating Google,Zynga,Yahoo, Aviya, NO WAY !
The next big Online Marketing Locating systems will be Branded Identifiable Pure Play Type-In names with .COM to the right of the dot. Well Branded Call to Action Type-Ins are the future, and the ones who position themselves early as such will be the new Online Powers into the future.
If there is not a .COM to the right of your Brand, theres no Trust or Behavioral Buying, conduit connection, to the worlds largest global transacting Consumer Base, found only in the Strategic .COM Channel.

I think these registrations are carried out by some .GURU hater to keep .GURU lovers away from registering names. On the other side, I am feeling good about my .coms after seeing these .GURUS
John McCormac says
This is all going to end in tears. 🙂 It is also going to attract a bit of attention for these new gTLDs so, in a way, the registries will benefit. But even mini-bubbles won’t build registration volume for some new gTLDs in the way that some people hope.
Tom Gilles says
This guy looks like a shill for the ANA or Verisign screaming ‘make a cybersquatting fud example of me’. ‘See how horrible and awful these New gTLDs are”. This suits that very well, and no serious domainer can be this stupid.
Joseph Peterson says
@Tom Gilles,
Most domainers are not “serious domainers”. A lot of inexperienced people out there are attracted to trademark-infringing domains. That has always been the case. Almost weekly, somebody offers to sell me such blatant specimens in older extensions like .COM. So I’d assume this is more of the same.
Owen Frager says
The guy keeps spamming me offering me some of my dotcom keywords with .guru- every couple of hours the prices go down.
Owen Frager says
BTW, Jeff, Im going to be in your neck of the woods on Mars on the 24th. Perhaps we can meet for lunch?
Tom Gilles says
@ Joseph Peterson
This would certainly be evidence of that. Looks like there is a real need of basic information for these newcomers.
Michael Bauser says
What would a ChickFilA.guru be an expert on, anyway? Obesity and homophobia?
Sean Sullivan says
And of course, he got them through GoDaddy.

Anyone know real .guru projects?
Domo Sapiens says
as it was written since day 1…
the Nightmare/Extortion for Brands has begun …
By now is clear who will play the game in each New TLD as it happened with the previous “Rolling Tumbleweeds” launches with the exception this time the “Dilution factor ” is enormous as hundreds come out, the last ones to come out will have a difficult time as people will “wake up and smell the coffee” and the “Pink Kool Aid” effect starts to wear out 🙂
The usual players:
a) a handful of domain flippers/hoarders/Bigger Fool ‘ Investors
b) Cybersquatters
the winners
a) a couple of registries
b) The consultants (mainly the legal kind)
c) ICANN Coffers
As of yesterday …There is a report that estimates 60k registrations combined for all of the DONUTS’ 14 TLD’s , at an average of 4 to 5000 per TLD , although in all fairness the report shows Dot Guru with 25k which it makes the other TLDs look dismal, I wonder how many of those 60k are BRAND related regs? just based on the example provided above, even if you double or triple the above numbers and some might think is to early to call it… the issue is not so much How many registrations are taking place but far more important “Who is doing the registrations?”.
There is nothing new under the Sun….
Domain Administrator says
+ 100 Domo Sapiens.
And the real winner is Frank Schilling.
