BetonSports.com was once one of the biggest gambling sites on the Internet generating Billions of dollars in revenue.
Today it was on the Godaddy.com/Afternic.com list selling for just $4,900
According to wikipedia.org BetonSports plc Which operated under BetonSports.com, was “one of the biggest players in the United States online gaming market, drawing in several billion US dollars in wagers in the early 2000s.”
In June 2006 US authorities indicted the company and a number of its executives on RICO, mail fraud, and tax evasion charges arising from its supplying online betting to customers in the United States (the alleged crimes took place before the adoption of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006).
The indictment was unsealed later that month when CEO David Carruthers was arrested in Dallas while returning to Costa Rica after attending the company’s annual general meeting in London.[6] Shortly after Carruthers’ arrest trading in the company’s stock was suspended.
“At that time BetonSports employed around 2000 workers in Costa Rica.”
“The company later terminated Carruthers and agreed to discontinue its US business.”
“In March 2007 founder Gary Kaplan was arrested in the Dominican Republic and was extradited to the US.”
“In August 2009 Kaplan plead guilty to three charges, including a racketeering charge.”
“On 8 January 2010 it was announced that David Carruthers had been sentenced to 33 months in prison.”
The domain remained owned by BetonSports PLC until it went under privacy at Tucows in October 2013 and now has been sold for just 4,900.
Talk about a rags to riches to rags story.
The domain is now showing as being owned by a Deana Morley of Heredia Costa Rica.
Seems like the domain BetonSports.com had returned home.

It surprises me that the removal of an “s” makes the domain worth a 100 times less !! The owner of betonsport.com is apparently selling for $495,000 (or offering for sale).
Makes betonsports.com seem a snip.

It is in the same tune when you have a company that buys a domain for 4k and then gets millions in VC: funny but irrelevant
