Huffington Post reports that Bob Parsons the founder of Go Daddy will give half of his fortune to charity.
According to Forbes that net worth is $1.9 Billion. http://www.forbes.com/profile/bob-parsons/
From the article:
Parsons and wife, Renee, recently joined the Giving Pledge –- a movement started by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett four years ago –- which asks the world’s richest people to donate half of their wealth to charity.
The Parsonses, along with six other affluent families, signed on –- bringing the total number of members to 122.
“Renee and I have always believed every child has the right to good nutrition, the best medical care, a good education, a happy and stress free environment and the hope that they too will share in the American Dream,” the couple said. “We’ve dedicated our foundation and our resources to helping make this happen. It makes sense we join The Giving Pledge.”
The billionaire’s generous gesture may just earn him back some fans he lost a couple of years back.
The article goes on to talk about the famous elephant incident and wonders if this gesture will win back some fans.

Curious.
Are they pledging to give 1/2 their fortune when they die — or while they are alive?
I guess I need to dig and find out.

From Wikipedia:
The official website states that it “is an effort to invite the wealthiest individuals and families in the world to commit to giving the majority of their wealth to philanthropy.” As of April 28, 2011, 69 billionaires had joined the campaign and pledged to give 50% or more of their wealth to charity.[3] An estimate of the contribution promised by the first 40 donors, based on their aggregate wealth as at August 2010, was at least $125 billion.[4]
According to the pledge the donation can happen either during the lifetime or after the death of the donor.[4] The pledge is a moral commitment to give, not a legal contract.

I noticed it can be given at any point – or willed.
Was just curious.

From Forbes on Tuesday,
Reached by phone hours before the announcement, another new member, GoDaddy’s founder Bob Parsons, whose known for his popular video blog and controversial Super Bowl ads (remember Israeli model Bar Refaeli making out with a nerd), said that he’d already planned to give away more than half of his money: “For me to do the pledge is no change. It’s not like I am joining and going to start giving. I’ve already been giving.” In his statement, Parsons, whose own foundation focuses largely on helping children in the greater Phoenix area and in Haiti, added that “(My wife) Renee and I have always believed every child has the right to good nutrition, the best medical care, a good education, a happy and stress free environment and the hope that they too will share in the American Dream.”

Congrats Bob, this is a good move!
…
I watched last year on TV that the association only use the interest of the money produce annually to finance their actions but there is so much money that is the #1 association with most power in the world.
Thanks to everyone there.

I’ve given half of my wealth to Parson’s Godaddy via domain names, so we’re all in this one 😉

Awesome. Its great to hear stories about giving; especially around this time of the year.

He has always pledged to give MORE than half his fortune away so I think Huff Post is selling him short. Theirs is a definitive statement of 50% rather than “more than” Seems like an serious oversight to me.
