According to a press release out today the owners of CarCovers.com claim they paid an amount for the domain name in 2012 which would have placed it the top 10 most expensive domain names in 2012
According to DnJournal.com for 2012 the 11th most expensive domain reported that year was 60.com which was $310,000
Tied for number 9 on the 2012 reported domain name sales was Bj.com and Vi.com which both sold for $325,000
So to make the top 10 list the domain name CarCovers.com would have had to sell for $311K or more.
However according to Domaintools.com I’m not sure there was a real arms length sale.
Although the name of the registrant has changed the current administrative contact is Dennis Tracy of tracyperf.com
The administrative contact back in 2011 was Domain Danny of tracyperf.com
Here is the rest of the press release:
“CarCovers.com has experienced rapid expansion. Just last year, they purchased their domain name and launched their business.”
“Done without a domain name broker, the purchase of their domain name was one of the ten most expensive of 2012. ”
“Reflecting on the purchase a year later, Jonathan Volk, the CEO of CarCovers.com, says, “The negotiations back and forth between the seller and our company were intense. In the end, we were able to secure the top-level domain name CarCovers.com to give our business the boost and image we were searching for. Since our acquisition, we have seen phenomenal amounts of growth, traffic and sales. We are currently on track to increase our sales volume by one-and-a-half to two times the volume we have done previously.”
NIn addition to car covers, they also have an extensive array of accessories available for discerning vehicle owners, including floor mats, dashboard covers, heated seat covers, and more. They provide quality car care products, such as microfiber dusting cloths and dusting kits, and their target market is the car owner who cares about the continued upkeep of their vehicle beyond oil changes and tune-ups.
Poised to become the industry’s leading go-to website for high quality car covers, they also offer buyers free shipping and multi-year warranties, making their products ones that car owners can trust year in and year out.
CarCovers.com
CarCovers.com was established in early 2008 by Surge Marketing, Inc., led by Jonathan Volk, a young internet marketing entrepreneur with a vision to grow a company and leave the affiliate arena behind. A gamer, computer geek and successful marketer still living at home with his mother and father, Volk built and launched the business from the basement of his parents’ home.
CarCovers.com quickly established itself as a market player, bringing in record sales in its first year and continuing to grow at exponential rates each year thereafter. CarCovers.com quickly grew out of basement location and moved in to a full-scale warehouse. Since then, it has positioned itself as a dominant player in the market.
Now, since acquiring their domain name priced in the high six-figures, launching their newest redesign of their website in February 2013, and acquiring their new, 30,000 square foot facility in Pittsburg, California in early July of 2013, CarCovers.com is ready to become the preeminent distributor of quality car covers in the United States and Canada
