Politico.com just covered the .Gop new gTLD which is being run by the Republican State Leadership Committee, a group that focuses on electing Republicans to state-level offices (RSLC)
“At the RSLC, we do pride ourselves on trying to look a little further down the road and take a longer view of things,” Chairman Ed Gillespie said in an interview, citing work the committee already does to recruit local candidates who may rise into the ranks of the national party one day. “I think we’re well positioned for that.”
And the committee is developing a process to screen out mischief-makers who don’t actually represent Republican groups or candidates.
“We don’t want people who are actually interested in harming the Republican Party [to get] a .gop, or people who espouse views that are antithetical to the party, or contrary to the United States for that matter, or offensive in terms of how they would operate it. So yeah, there is an element of control here.

They’ve filed a community objection against .republican, so they might feel confident they will prevail…
… and frankly, they have a good chance of prevailing.

What about:
.Lib
.Dem
.Congress
Michael Berkens says
The Democratic Party unlike the Republicans did not apply
Demand Media which applied for .Republican also applied for .Democrat
No one applied for .Lib, .Dem or .Congress

In the event these actually gain traction – I just do not see a politician associating themselves with a “political party” non.com.
I mean right out the shoot you are alienating yourself from half the voters – and isn’t a politician by definition someone who talks out of both sides of his mouth – seriously !
Michael Berkens says
Brian
I have no idea of what you are talking about, every candidate identifies themselves to a party, they run in primary’s to win the parties nomination for important offices which are usually heavily contested.
Those who are not dem’s or gop’s identify themselves, as independents
No politician runs for office or holds office without being either party of some party.
BrianWick says
Come on Michael –
If .gop, .republican, .democrat gain any noteworthiness – it will be like every politician dressing up in a red elephant or blue donkey 24/7.
So even though they might charcoal their words to get in independent vote or even cross party lines – that “outfit” (or domain) they are wearing will likely prevent them from getting those stray votes

lol! who the hell said EVERY politician had to use them?
its along the same extreme lines as saying “well, every .COM isnt going to switch to a .whatever…… so therefore “

This is a good extension in my opinion (rightofthedot.com is not working with them as we sit today)
Every election cycle there are thousands of people running for office some will win many will lose, people that never have run for office don’t have “their .com”
They could register electjohnsmithforcongress.com or they can register johnsmith.gop
There are some 55 million people I think that are registered republicans and this extension is backed by the party.
Then there are blogs
Then there are the haters of the GOP that will jump on the chance to grab the name of a candidate or a generic to use against the .GOP.
If your in the business of selling domains, like a registry, this one in my opinion will do well.
