According to Allthingsd.com, A San Francisco judge awarded Pinterest $7.2 million in damages and legal fees against  a Chinese cybersquatter Qian Jin, over 100 domain names including pinterests.com, pimterest.com and pinterost.com.

The judge found the infringement to be “willful and serial,” noting, “There is no indication of good faith mistake or excusable neglect justifying defendant’s failure to respond or otherwise defend against plaintiff’s allegations.”

Pinterest.com also was awarded the domain names.

A sad day for free enterprise, competition and the entrepreneurial spirit. Once again, money begats money and the doors will remain firmly shut for outsiders…

It is pathetic if a company like Pinterest is so insecure about their own business that they need to do this.

So true I too have some such domains which i generated using http://techxt.com/domain-finder/. I think its time to get rid of these domains

Well, there’s the argument that if they allow this to occur, they set a precedent to allow it to happen even more in the future. This action shows that they are concerned about this and have gone to the trouble of showing that concern. Extremely doubtful they’ll see any money though… especially since the registrant is in China. The judgement is simply symbolic.

    Are you kidding me.
These are infringing domains and the domainer was guilty and got what he got. When you use Trademarks that you don’t own to make a profit, be prepared for the fallout.

So for all you fools with company trademarked names as part of your domains, you too will go down one day. You are the same as a Reverse Domain Name Hijacker. Just on the other end.

That guy and Dom Nic are the people that give our industry a bad name. Idiots trying to make money off of somebody’s hard work. Like Rick said. Stealing is stealing, whether it’s a RDNH or typo of a trademark, it’s trying to take something or make money off something that isn’t yours.

They’ve missed pintere.st then as well.

@Rick et al: do you think it is infringing or not?

I have no sympathy for the Domainer whatsoever.
I am currently into the very final stages of the development for a unique video App for pinup.com that has cost an arm and a leg notwithstanding the time it is taken.
I would be doing exactly what pinterest.com did if this happened to our new social media development for Pinup
