The kicker maybe that the domain holder does not even seem to be the owner of virtualplanet.com a domain that has been registered since 1995.

Such examples are not rare.
You see similar registration patterns in the droplists quite often.
We are all getting carried away at some point, because we have a great plan in mind and then the circumstances change, or we just lack the time or the motivation to complete the project.
The question is why it takes some registrants more than a decade to finally realize they have been blowing money ablaze.

This person knew something about the value of Domains 13 years ago.
If he had selected even 10 domains of the right kind which were still available to be hand registered, he would have been a multi millionaire.

Hmm, could have tried putting them up for sale for $499 each in an attempt to recover the money… although to tell the truth, they would only appeal to a very tiny number of potential buyers.
