Christmas came early for Frank Schilling’s Uniregistry whose new gTLD application for .Christmas was one of the 89 to pass ICANN’s Initial Evaluation (IE) today
Other application passing IE of note today were:
The Gergraphic application by the city of Madrid for .Madrid
The Brand applications for .Nokia by the cell phone maker; .Xfinity submitted by Comcast; .Dupont by the global conglomerate of the same name; .Brother filed by the company best known for their printers and .Datsun filed by Nissan (I didn’t know they still made those) the watch maker .Swatch, .AVIANCA the Latin American Airline; .Raid as in the bug spray and .Clubmed as in its time for a cocktail.
Some application for generic terms passing today were the application of Demand Media, Inc. for .Mom and .RIP; Famous Four who is the sole applicant for .Faith; Donuts who is the sole applicant for .Cheap and .Mortgage; Microsoft Corporation application for .Docs and the generic that many use to some up the whole new gTLD program .WTF.
.Ping also passed IE today, not the gold club manufacturer’s application but the application filed by Radix.
For the first time in many weeks no application was approved which was passed over in a previous week and no application that went through IE this week got the dreaded Extended Evaluation tag.
Through today ICANN has gone through IE for all applications with a prioritization number of 1,299 and has made decisions on 1,190 of those.
