Sedo announced today that they will run “sunrise” and “landrush” auctions for Starting Dot’s new gTLD extensions, and assist with sales and brokerage of premium domains for .Bio, .Ski, .Archi and .Immo.
It should be noted that while StartingDot has the only application for .Bio, they are not the only applicant for .Ski. Donuts has an application for that new gTLD as well.
.Immo is heavily contested with four applicants
While StartingDot has the only application for .Archi, Donuts has an application for .ARCHITECT
Here is how each of the new gTLD that StartingDot applied for are described:
- .Bio – Already approved for launch by ICANN, .Bio is an extension that is applicable to a number of industries, from biography to biology and bioclimate to organic food and farming. It will be an open TLD that is generally available to anyone looking for a memorable and descriptive domain that’s applicable to their business or community.
- .Ski – Dedicated to members of the snow sports community, more than 100 ski and snow sports organizations, representing millions of members globally, are already on board to help operate the .Ski domain extension. This will give organizations, brands and people passionate about snow sports the exclusive opportunity to own a dedicated piece of Internet real estate.
- .Archi – Defined and regulated in collaboration with the International Union of Architects, this new TLD will be reserved for a community consisting of professional architects by applying restrictive eligibility policies. Architecture is a highly regulated industry, and .Archi will help ensure that standards of professionalism extend to the Internet to eliminate false impersonations and ensure public safety.
- .Immo – As a direct translation to the term “real estate” in many European countries, the .Immo TLD will aim to provide an online platform restricted to real estate professionals. Supported by some of the largest European real estate associations, firms and websites, .Immo will help consumers clearly identify industry professionals as more and more real estate transactions originate online.

.archi? really? really?
Did airlines or freight flock to .aero, did museums flock to .museum? Not really.
Are there hoardes of architects lining up to pay this additional annual burden on their name? I should imagine most of them have relatively old and dusty solid .com / local cctld domains and their sites are not exactly “retail”.
I do think some of the new gtld’s will do pretty well, specifically the geos and of course the closed brand ones will no doubt get a lot of air time and aren’t concerned with registrations.
Im not down across the board on the new gtld idea by any stretch but some of these are just gonna lose so much money it hurts.
