Another .Co domain name is in the news today as Brit + Co., a San Francisco-based media company focused on DIY ideas for “creative living in the digital age,” has raised $6.3 million in Series A funding according to The Term Sheet.
Oak Investment Partners led the round, and was joined by Index Ventures, Lerer Ventures, Cowboy Ventures and returning angel investors like Marissa Mayer who is the CEO and President of Yahoo
The companies website is www.brit.co.
The domain name Brit.co was sold on Sedo.com in April 2012 for $4,750.
Brit.co has a Google Page Rank of 5 and Alexa ranking of 34,000 and a Compete.com ranking of 35,000 so the site gets some serious traffic.
If you wondering Brit + Co. does not own Brit.com, which is owned by a medical imaging software company.

so im curious: how many people think they will “lose most their traffic” to the .COM
and explain why you think this..

I like Brit.co. I’ve been watching it for awhile now, and this is no surprise. Content is the important thing. But coming up with good content is difficult and takes a lot of time to produce.
As someone who has owned a number of popular websites since the ’90s, I’ve always been interested in the ‘domainer’ mindset… even though I’ve never sold a domain name. But that’s because I’m doing just fine with sponsors and advertising. I see many people thinking they can get $##### for a certain domain name, but if they developed it, they’d get a much more reliable income source, which when calculated over the years (or even just a few months in some cases), would bring them much more money than simply selling a name. Of course, you can’t just slap a website together, it requires a lot of work and creativity. And therein lies the problem for many people.
Brit.co is a good example of the right way to develop a site. By itself, parked, what would the name be worth? But add a ton of good content to a well organized and attractive site, and it has the potential to be worth 10,000x more. It’s good to see a success story like this, and I wish Brit the best.

How is their name pronounced? “Brit and co”…”brit plus co”…or “britco”?
Grim says
The “Brit + Co.” logo is likely that way because it’s a better design than simply, “Brit.co”. Plus it plays on the shortened version of the word company, implying that while she’s the principal in charge, it’s her and others that are involved with the site.
As an aside, I actually liked the design of the site she had just a few months back better. This one fills the screen more, but I’m not particularly fond of the vertical menu on the left side, compared to horizontal one at the top, that she had before. I like the color scheme, but some of the menu text colors are a bit too light… yellow (“Style”) and peach (“DIY”) being the worst offenders.
She also had a photo of herself in the upper right-hand corner that said something like “Hi, I’m Brit”, which I thought made it more personal. Now it looks a tad more generic.

Brit.co is a popular site with millenials. Company founded by the lovely, friendly and smart Brit Morin, who also is the wife of Dave Morin, who was employee #8 (?) at FB and the founder of Path.com, which has a valuation of approx. $1 Billion.
