Verisign released a new Tool called the Custom Domain Tool at Domaininspiration.com to help people find the perfect unregistered domain name.
The site preference is for you to log in with your Facebook account and then randomly generates domain names to match your profile however you can sign up with it using your email address as well.
In my case the Tool “randomly generated 209 domains based on your profile”.
The results seem to be geared to domain names my last name, my company my sports interests and professions couple with common words.
All of the domain names are available for registration but many of the suggested domain names are for .net, .tv and even .name domain names for which Verisign is the Registry for in addition of course to .com.
In my case some of the suggested available domain were berkensquartely.com, incresume.com, LightningTailgating.net, berkensmonthly.tv, berkensgroup.net, BuccaneersPodcast.net, LawSchoolGroup.net, MichaelsShop.net, TaxLawMonthly.com, MichaelsMetsBlog.com are just a few of the domain suggestions.
However as you can see from above there are potiental trademark issues with some of the selected names and if you say worked for Facebook I’m not sure you wouldn’t get domain suggestions that included your name and Facebook in the domain.
Here are the FAQ’s from the site:
What is The Domain Inspiration App?
It’s a free web application that lets you find available domains in .com, .net, .tv and .name based on your profile information. Simply login via facebook, or fill out your information manually and you’ll get back a list of domains you can register now.
How do you get the suggested names?
Our application uses multiple methods for suggesting names. It takes into account your profile information (such as location, career, first and last name) and matches it up with modifiers such as “family” or “fan”.
How does the favorites button work?
Once you login, you’ll see a domain suggestion that is available to register. If you click “favorite” it will be saved to your favorites folder (which you can see any time at the bottom of the page).
How do I save my favorites?
Once you’ve gathered a some favorited domains, simply expand the tray at the bottom of the app and click the “save” button. You’ll then be provided with a few different ways to save your list. It is important to note that saving a domain in the app does NOT prevent others from registering the domain, so if you find one you really like we recommend registering immediately.
I’ve found names I want, now what?
Verisign has relationships with over 900 registrars worldwide. Click the “claim” button next to any of your favorites or near the suggested domain. Simply choose your preferred provider and register the domain or domain(s) you like best.
You need to check whether or not any of the names you have chosen are either offensive or might infringe on the rights (including trademark rights) of others.
Will you post to my facebook page without my consent?
Nope, never. While we will provide opportunities for you to share domains you like, we will never auto-publish any activity you make on the app. We use your facebook profile info to provide relevant to domains, not to spam you or your friends.

thank god I have a life – and therefore no faceplant account – otherwise I would be realizing right now what horrible wrong turns I have made !

Worthless tool because:
– most name suggestions are .net, .name and other non .coms
– there are potential TM issues
– it generates crappy quality keywords
