According to a story in the retail-digital.com, it was the the online brand protection and domain name management company NetNames.com that brokered the deal for the purchase of the domain name IG.com on behalf of its client IG, the global leaders in financial spread betting and CFD trading.
IG is currently merging the spread betting and CFD products of IG Index and IG Markets under a single IG brand and single domain name. As part of the rebranding exercise, IG wanted to acquire the IG.com domain name which was in use by Brazil’s third-largest search portal. “
“NetNames negotiated a 50% reduction in the price of the domain name and worked with IG’s legal team to close the transaction.”
“To ensure IG’s online presence is consistent with the corporate brand, NetNames is continuing to work closely with IG on an ongoing basis to develop a comprehensive domain portfolio across all of its high-value territories.”
“Mike Clark, head of production for IG, comments on the domain name acquisition and its importance to the company: “IG is a global company and we wanted a web address that reflects our strong brand and worldwide presence. Acquiring the IG.com domain name ensures that our global website is consistent with our trademarks and enhances our digital footprint so that we have greater control over the internet traffic to our site. Although we had always wanted to use the IG.com domain, we felt that it wouldn’t be possible to acquire it because it was already in use. “
“We were very impressed that NetNames were able to successfully broker a deal and we greatly value the investment they made in exploring the different options available and ensuring we felt comfortable with the process during the negotiation.”
“IG is a world leader in the financial services space so we are delighted to be partnering with them and helping the company rebrand under the single IG identity,” commented Marcus Kocak, head of domain acquisitions at NetNames.
“We have worked closely with the IG team throughout the entire domain acquisition process to ensure that we maintain the transparency and trust that allows us to work effectively as an extension of their company. We look forward to continuing our work with IG and helping build the brand’s domain portfolio.”
According to the story , IG.com was just one of the domains NetNames.com “acquired as part of a broad portfolio of domain names”

No sign of the traffic results anywhere……
Regards the IG.com sale, the seller must not like money to give 50%.
Michael Berkens says
Well the seller could have started with an asking price of $20 million
Stu Holly says
Yeah but to give $10 million away would be rather stupid
Louise says
@ Elliot posted results on his blog:
Louise says
Bouquet @ $30,000 and MovieTheater pair at $28,000 – if the latter goes through – were the high ticket domains on that list.
B.ElZA. says
Was bouquet.com sold for $850 as Michael(TheDomains.com) stated above or for $30000 as Elliot(ElliotsBlog.com) stated in his blog? which one is right?
Michael Berkens says
To be clear guys its not “Michael (thedomains) stated”, it was one of the readers to the blog that put the numbers up
Actually in that comment I stated:
“”I did have someone that left this as a comment on another post, have no idea if is correct and certainly seems incomplete:”””
I later stated is that you should use the link that was later provided to Elliot’s blog which is accurate
