xBiz.com is reporting the ICM registry the company that operates the .XXX extension has sold over 12,000 domain names during its May promotion where domain registrations went for a low as $8.99.
The promotion will end Friday at 4 p.m. PDT (midnight UTC time) at which time the price of a .XXX registration goes back to $62 wholesale.
ICM Registry CEO Stuart Lawley told XBIZ that most of those who have taken advantage of the discount, which likely will be repeated in future years, locked in their .XXX domain names for an average of two years.
According to xBiz, ICM Registry reports 205,794 .XXX domain names in the system. Defensive blocks account for about 85,000 .XXX names, leaving 120,000 recurring names.
According to the most recent ICANN report for January of 2013 there are 113,773 .XXX domain registrations not counting the 10 year domain blocks.
Based off the January numbers ICM is on track to add about 10% to its domain registration totals (not including blocks)
