Another .Co is in the news today as H2.co announced its holding its inaugural meeting at LinkedIn’s global headquarters in Silicon Valley in October 2013.
Talk about name dropping.
Lets start with Reid Hoffman who is a Partner at Greylock and Co-Founder and Executive Chairman at LinkedIn
Then we move over to Nayan Patel and Jeff Merkel who between them are ex-Google, Verisign and Apple exec’s.
The organization which used to be known as h2global.org is now using a .Co H2 (h2.co), ]which has become “an exclusive leadership network consisting of 250 of the technology industry’s most influential operating executives across 9 global chapters, is now broadening its offerings to include a set of integrated online member community tools as well as an annual global conference.
“On this, its 3-year anniversary, H2 is announcing the launch of its first annual global member and innovation leadership conference, H2O.”
“Founded with the goal of connecting senior leaders in the startup community to facilitate idea exchange and knowledge sharing, H2 launched its first events in Silicon Valley, London, and Singapore in May 2010.
Since then, the network has grown to include additional chapters in Beijing, Berlin, India, New York, Sao Paulo and Tokyo.
Membership in H2 is on a referral and chapter approval basis, and its Member Forums follow a structured group discussion format that is topic-driven and member-led under the Chatham House Rule to promote trusted and open conversations around key executive-level themes in the digital sphere.
“As opportunities flow through congregations of people, the right human networks can play a pivotal role in achieving success,” said H2 advisor Reid Hoffman, Partner at Greylock and Co-Founder and Executive Chairman at LinkedIn. “H2 has created a global network and trusted community for startup leaders to help them achieve both company and career success.”
“Taking place in October 2013 in Silicon Valley, the conference will provide a unique convening point for H2 Members and invited leaders from some of the most influential startups around the world to discuss current core foundations and innovation trends in the industry. In addition, H2 today is also making available a powerful set of online community tools designed to enhance member-to-member connectivity and leverage expert industry insights across the network.
“In connecting startup leaders around the world over the last three years, we know that building and maintaining robust industry playbooks to inform executive-level decision-making has never been more important or challenging,” said Nayan Patel, Founder & CEO of H2. “We are excited to see how H2 is providing significant value for our members in this regard, and look forward to the continued development of our platform based on the needs of our membership and direction of the industry.”

With enough money you can put quotes around anything and put it on a billboard, tv, mags and other traditional media. But if you do not have enough money – well like me – I need the intuitive .com 🙂
IMO, The same reason these guys can make it work with a non.com is the same reason fortune 500’s really do not need intuitive .coms – point being .coms are for small to mid size business for naming purposes or to bring a new product into the forefront.

Hello MHB,
It is important to remember that the .co site is for informational purposes not for collecting revenues that their .COM sites will do as a result of this promo site.
Warren buffets Berkshire Hathaway knows full well where this promotional sites revenues will funnel.
This SMARTEST of SMART money, actualizing the Extreme Boom times ahead for (.COM Profit centers) tells even the most extreme naysayers of the .COM supremacy extending itself, they are barking up the wrong tree.
Warren Buffets Berkshire Hathaway Think tank is putting their money ahead of their mouth. They are convinced of the .COM Channels increasing dominance.
This comes from Market Analysts that know their business, not alias commentors who cannot even reveal their true names.
Comments anyone?

Brian
you don’t need a .com to be intuitive
move.me is just an intuitive as a .com
Its still domaining 6.0 and its all about branding

FOLLOW THE MONEY (NOT THE SMOKESCREEN .CO PROMO SITE) !
It is important to remember that the .co site is for informational purposes not for collecting revenues that their .COM sites will do as a result of this promo site.
This is a connecting platform for Start up leaders who predominately own .COM Profit Centers.

So Michael –
You are saying that it will cost just as much to promote a production site at “Move.Me” vs. MoveMe.com ?
And in that case where both are operational – but not related – are you also suggesting users will be just as eager to mistakenly type in the other and ultimately end up at the wrong website ?
Michael Berkens says
what i’m saying is what I have been saying for a few year
its all about the brand
If you can brand around the domain it doesn’t matter what the TLD is
its the brand in total that will win or lose
what’s my brandable move.me or movetochicago.com?
BrianWick says
“If you can brand around the domain it doesn’t matter what the TLD is”
But that is my point – IMO it cost substantially more to “brand” a non.com vs. a .com ending with the TLD – i.e. MoveMe.com costs less to promote than Move.me

The more natural term will win in the future

Maybe you did not read this carefully : ” They are not all going to go out sell their .COM Profit Centers to a competitor and rebrand with .co Trust us on this.”JAS 5/23/13
So often you post .co promo articles as if they are going to use the .co promo site for revenue gathering???
This is a joke that Smart people laugh at.
R. E. = ” The more natural term will win in the future ”
How can you possibly sit there with a straight face and say a (non revenue promo .co site), will win the future?
Where on earth did your economics education dissappear to ?

Anyone notice that http://www.h2.co doesn’t load correct? It keeps redirecting me to h2.co/install.php
The DNS settings must be screwed up.
Oh and btw, branding a ccTLD or non .com is no different than branding a .com, especially outside the US.

We had the glasses on 15 years ago, pre pidgeon shit, we dont have to pick crumbs off the floor. Well positioned and counting the days till more are educated on whats really coming down.
We do not need to decieve to divert attention away from .COMs, lets cut the Suppress .COMs so we can position ourselves Syndrome.

you’re full of shit dude. is that why you were trying to sell usebiz.com for like 5 million dollars 15 years ago?
you said usebiz.com is on par with business.com and were trying to get like 5 million dollars out of it in the year 2000.
im dead serious: either this is just a decade long troll in the making or someone has assumed the guys identity because you really cant be any dumber than the character “Jeff Schneider.” im sorta assuming its a character at this point.
think about it, he signs all his posts with the same signature. all the while posting about this .COM stuff with such an extreme insane angle mentioning everything should be intuitive with .COM and how important it is…
meanwhile, he does not own JeffSheinder.com, ContactGroup.com or even MetalTiger.com (or any of the other TLD’s)
whats wrong with this picture?
Jeff Schneider says
Has anyone sat back and really looked at the whole playing field?
We got all kinds of people looking for quality .COMs to drop and we got pumpers of .Whatevers. All these players are hoping .COM holders get discouraged and drop Gold.
If you guys are not positioned well enough tough shit.
What do you want? The world to stop for you so you can get positioned with .COM Profit Centers?
You are decieving people for your own selfish means as well as holding up forward progress for Joint Ventures to blow Internet expansion to the upside.
You are diverting attention away from .COMs,for your own greedy motives. This game of deception is holding back Internet Expansion.
You need to cut the Suppress .COMs so we can position ourselves Syndrome, for the good of all.
Pay up for .COM positions or get the -uck out of the way of progress.

Oh and the .com bs from people like you day in and day out isn’t holding back internet expansion? Thank god there aren’t more of you.
Wake up dude! .Com isn’t where it was 5 years ago and it definitely isn’t where it was 10-15 years ago. You can thank brandable alternatives like .me, .co, .TV and upcoming gTLDs for that. It’s called evolution!
In case you still don’t get it – read up on this post where one of the most respected guys in the industry explains why he’s selling – http://www.impulsecorp.com/10-reasons-why-i-am-eager-to-sell-my-domains
PS: Great point “ontheinterweb”. Theguy doesn’t even own the .com’s of his own wannabe brands lol

Eric Bogros article quotes Mr. T references:
“Having a killer domain sets them apart from the rest, helps for SEO, and helps in advertising both online and offline. ”
“There is also a good chance it (New TLDs) might increase the value of .com domains, because it will cause a lot of confusion and that will lead consumers to go to the .com versions of the domains by mistake”
“None of this means I think domains are a bad investment or that there is not money to be made, but after 18 years as a domainer I am ready to try to focus more on other ventures.”
Over the years I have bought a handful a decent domains (at ok prices) from Eric – and he is one of the most grounded (and honest) guys in the business. Some of our deals I just wired the money and he would transfer the domain – others including 5-digit deals he would just transfer the domain to me and then I would wire the money. I tried to buy CheapFlowers.com from him before he built a successful business around that one 🙂
The point is – nothing has changed – nothing is going to change it – people still need to get their app on someone’s phone co0mpeting with 750 Trillion other apps – it all points to .com being the only one on the shelf – because the US Courts, Federal Courts and UDRP have programmed that into the consumer’s brain – everything else is utterly wishful thinking 🙂
Michael Berkens says
Jeff
Successful businesses are being built on .co, .me .io and a lot of domain extensions.
That’s all you need to know
ontheinterweb says
@Brian, RE: “everything else is utterly wishful thinking”
all one needs to do is look back the last 5-8 years or so to know that isnt true.
before that it was almost unheard of to use random TLD’s. now SOME places try it out because the option is available. the trend will continue when even more intuitive words are available as an option to register.
im afraid many of the creative minds from the 1990’s are no longer creative. now that the internet is mainstream they’re the status quo. and why not? people deserve some rest after being called a geek on the fringes of society. but times are a changin’
BFitz says
IMHO the gap between the new gtld’s and .com is the same as the gap between web and brick and mortar businesses. A traditional small business relying on word of mouth needs the .com or even .net. Otherwise the conversation becomes about the extension rather than the business. I built a place last year and used a .me for the site. I was constantly explaining it, I switched to a LLL dot net and was able to promote the brand. That being said I am pro dot co for tech and SM start ups as well as .me where most of the brand users are finding the business via the web already and are generally web savvy.
“If your explaining your defending.” So if a business has to explain its extension to its core customer they better go with a .com/.net. If not-let the gtld rip!

There are so many debates about whether to use .com and .co web address…..
For me, I decided to use both options ie initially I started with .co web address RAYY.co and now branch out to new .com version using new name NAMEii.com ( 2 weeks old)
At least I covered both dot com and non dot com versions….. There are both brandable names with slightly different contents, but with the same goals of selling domains…….
Whatever happen in future, I still have brandable .com and .CO versions…….
