As Fadi Chehadé, ICANN’s President & CEO, announced this week, that ICANN has launched a public conversation about ICANN’s future.
ICANN has posted on its blog all the information around this Public Conversation.
“We are seeking ideas from the global community to help create a new, overarching vision and five-year strategy for ICANN. ”
An animated video and slides have been posted in six UN languages to help seed an online discourse about the complex, changing environment ICANN operates within and the future challenges and opportunities we should take into account as we prepare for a new planning cycle.
- What do you think are the most important forces potentially affecting the Internet in the next 1-5 years that should be broadly taken into consideration when ICANN creates its new five-year strategy?
- What are the most important things to keep in mind when considering how the above forces connect with ICANN’s mission and core values (as detailed in our bylaws)?
- What key factors should we consider related to ICANN’s roles, responsibilities, operations, and structure?
Please share your answers to these, as well as other applicable thoughts or comments, you may have. Your input will be synthesized and carefully considered by ICANN’s CEO and Board, and will help provide a framework for ICANN strategic planning.
The strategic planning process will formally begin in June 2013, and will include a more focused public discussion (online and at the ICANN Durban meeting), a draft Strategic Plan posted for public comment, and Board consideration and action at the end of this year. The results will be a new Strategic Plan that will serve as the foundation for developing a new ICANN Operating Plan and Budget.
Thank you for helping to shape ICANN’s future.

I hope someone at ICA and ICANN reads this ! IIMPORTANT ISSUE BEING LOW ON PRIORITY LIST !
Why Reverse Domain Name Hijacking needs to be a REAL PENALTY !
All of the TLD extensions will mean nothing witout New Lease Holder Protections , if UDRPs and the uncertainty and ease with which Felons can try to steal Virtual Business Fondations from their rightful owners is not Checked.
Everything we speak of is tied to the secondary markets Valuations , the cash cow engines that supply the catalyst for our Industry.
The cuurent situation of uncertainty with weak Lease Holder Protections, severely impacts and suppresses Secondary Market Valuations!
Uncertainty in Stock Markets cause Bear Markets. I think you know the far reaching implications here.
Market Integrity is Essential !
Its in registrars best interests in the long run to fight for New Tougher Lease Protections.
Why are you not seeing this? Why do registrars not want tougher Lease holder protections ?
Where there are valuable Assets you find big rats trying to get at the cheese!
Why are registrars not fighting for protections?
We are not going away on this subject, its paramount, to all of us lease holders.
We are here to tell you that if registrars and ICANN wanted to shore up Leaseholder protections they could do this in a New York minute. my question to you and others is why havent they done this???

Ok, let me pull you back from your delusional world of domains. The total market value of all domain names is basically like a single dung beetle compared to value of the corporations which are a herd of elephants that drop the dung.
Simply put, no one gives a sh$t and the world hates domainers, thinking that they’re all squatters. So, keep screaming, no one is listening.

I contribute $10K a year to the ICA and my representative Phil is at ICANN right now chatting with the people you think you are going to reach with your comments.
So I’m being represented where it counts at ICANN
The rest is just noise and my opinion in pretty much know to all as I’ve been at this blog crap for over 5 years, thanks a lot Sahar
Jeff Schneider says
@ MHB
Sahar ? R. E. = ” thanks a lot Sahar ” I am confused by this anecdote ? what ?
I have been an observer for longer than 5 years. Try mid 90s
If ICANN wants any credibility with new .Whatevers they need Lease holder protections for all extensions. Otherwise its like printing fiat money.

Hello MHB,
This is a great formality, how effective will it be in real world process is the question? If all we get out of this is NO UDRP. penalties for perpetrators?? We will see won”t we ?
My bet is ICANN will stone wall more protections for lease holders. Hope We are wrong, but don’t think probable.

Jeff Schneider says
Hello MHB,
Probability for Lease Holder Protections for penalties for Udrp perpetrators is 100 to 1 no go.
Any bets out there?

Jeff Schneider says
Hello MHB,
We know the headwinds Phil is facing, if he pulls off UDRP Lease holder protections in the form of penalties that are equal for both perpetrator and victim we will be astounded. This is not about .Whatever Assets this is about Strategic .COM Profit Centers, that many covet, Big Time.
Hope we are wrong but the .COM prize is big for thieves that covet them. You see I know assets and their values and you better hope your .COM holdings are protected.

“Thanks a lot Sahar” – yep I second that, cheers MHB. It would be impossible to follow even 1% of this *crap* without yours and the ICA’s help keeping an eye on it all.

When ICANN and registrars support real penalties for Reverse Domain Name Hijacking, its the only way it will ever happen. Appeasing the public with this P.R. formality will not change their minds. They are against Penalties that will protect proof is, these penalties would be already put into place.
We are here to tell you that if registrars and ICANN wanted to shore up Leaseholder protections they could do this in a New York minute. my question to you and others is why havent they done this???
To frame me as not being a supporter of ICA because I am being a Sqweaky Wheel is laughable.
Also many unjust laws down through history were irradicated through a process of public dissent, its my right and we need more whistle blowers and not institutions that disregard the peoples will just because they seemingly have the law on their side.
All Domain holders need to continually ask why are we not being protected?
ICANN and REGISTRARS are by defintion through their actions stonewalling penalties for
Reverse Domain Name Hijackers WHY , WHY , WHY
