According to a blog post tonight, the .Co registry announced they are launching Asian IDNs in Chinese, Japanese and Korean. on April 15th, without a formal trademark sunrise, landrush period or grandfathering period for these three IDN languages.
“With non-English speaking Internet users and content increasing, providing alternate languages for .CO domain names is expected for the registry and our team. ”
“Over the past two and a half years, .CO has become the domain of choice for startups and entrepreneurs around the world – including an increasing number of non-English speakers.
For this reason, .CO has begun offering .CO domain names in alternate languages including Icelandic, Danish, Finnish, among others.
- We will be launching three languages – Chinese, Japanese, Korean.
- The launch date is 15 April 2013 at 18:00 UTC (this translates to Monday, 15 April, 2pm EDT).
- All of the .CO product family will be launching the languages (.CO, .com.co, .net.co and .nom.co).
“As part of the Asian launch, we will not be conducting a formal trademark sunrise, landrush or grandfathering period for these three IDN languages. ”
