ICANN’s Independent Objector Files Objections To 24 New gTLD Applications

On 12 March 2013, the Independent Objector (IO) lodged 24 objections against new applied-for gTLDs before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

The 24 objections were on 13 separate strings, three for .Amazon including 2 IDN’s; .Charity; .Med; .Health,; .Healthcare; .Hospital; .Indians; .Patagonia; .Medical.

The IO is limited to filing objections on the grounds of Limited Public Interest and Community.

“Following his exchanges with some applicants for new gTLDs, as part of the Initial Notice Procedure he remained convinced that, for some applications, an objection was still warranted on the Limited Public Interest and/or Community grounds”

The following list of objections will be examined by experts’ panels appointed by the ICC and in light of the New gTLD Dispute Resolution Procedure from ICANN, the ICANN gTLD Applicant Guidebook, the ICC Rules for Expertise, the Appendix III to the ICC Rules for Expertise and the ICC Practice Note on the Administration of Cases.”

    Hello MHB,

    These are only the objections filed so far. the more troubling Objections the Closed Monopoly TLDs will recieve is the World consumers that will boycott this Global power Grab attempt.

    You can pass a Law but you cannot enforce a law in the hearts of the masses. ICANNs response the train is leaving the station will echoe back to haunt this whole (Closed Monopoly TLD Folly )

    I-Can of Worms

    ICANN, in my opinion made a grave error in opening these new gtlds can of worms. Most of the determinations on the objections are bound to be subjective, because is you think about it, all these tlds are public property. Totally stupid.

    I agree with the previous two comments. Absolute folly, and it boggles the mind that they steam on ahead. Possibly they have gone passed the point of no return and cannot cancel or revise the whole idea of gTLDs without heavy liabilities…
    To try grab ownership of words like .book, .library, .health etc. etc. is simply egotistical and belongs in an African dictatorship!
