ICM Registry, the registry operator for the .XXX top-level domain announced today in a press release that “IRIS SARL, based in Luxembourg, has secured an additional 25 Premium Domains in a deal worth $185,000″.
“This is the second significant order from IRIS who previously acquired $650,000 of premium names back in September 2012.”
The new .XXX names include singles.xxx, sexvideos.xxx, adultchat.xxx and many more popular niche sectors of the adult market”.
“The Chairman of IRIS commented.” We have spent several months analyzing the key adult search terms and with our SEO experts and have chosen a further 25 Premium XXX names that are highly popular adult search terms. In addition, the recent changes by Google have seen a dramatic increase in traffic to our other .XXX sites and this is without doubt, a solid investment in the future”
For us is another poor sale for the ICM registry of premium domains.
25 domain names divided by $185,000 is $7,400 a domain.
It’s placing a very low ceiling on what a top .XXX domain can sell for in the aftermarket.
Not great for what the registry describes as premium domains which are “popular niche sectors of the adult market”.

Frank Shilling paid extremely tooo much for .xxx.
If he waited he would buy solid .xxx for pennies now.

Me too
Win some, lose some

At $7,400 per domain name, that’s a lot less than the $500,000 paid for gay.xxx, for example, as .XXX was being released. In my opinion, some who got in early overpaid. At least in the short run. That’s why I waited. Though one could say gay.xxx got tons of publicity simply for being the most expensive .XXX sold.
Still, I agree with IRIS SARL. Especially with Google’s changing algorithms, those with premium/quality .XXX names should do well. Of course those who have campaigned against ICM/XXX, in favor of the status quo, would argue otherwise. But traffic doesn’t lie. A company like IRIS SARL would not invest another dime in ICM/XXX if it did not make financial sense.
Those of us who did our homework bought quality .XXX domains. I believe we will profit as a result. Meanwhile, those who want to troll can troll. Only time will tell if an investment in .XXX was a good one, but I dare say many of us who invested in .XXX did more research than the trolls out there. Especially the trolls who are simply trying to prevent competition.

After reading title I thought “man some people have too much money and not know what to do with it”.
Perhaps Im wrong and Iris is right afterall some are better speculators than others and that is the risk vs reward.
After all said and done I decided to only keep one in this extension ‘Categories’ dot xxx.
I think every possible fetish that is known to man is listed. Best of luck IRIS.

@ Mr. Berkens
What was your average cost per domain, if you don’t mind me asking. If that’s more info than you care to share, just ignore. I assume you bought quality domains. A lot of junk domains were purchased by speculators. Those domains are all over the secondary market and I don’t expect many of those speculators to renew. But quality domains will win out, regardless of the extension.
Paul says
@ Pawel
I agree. Frank overpaid, at least in the short term. However, his investment in .XXX was modest. A fortune for most people, but a modest investment for Frank. Now, his gTLD applications… that’s another story.

Paul –
“I assume you bought quality domains. A lot of junk domains were purchased by speculators.”
When you have the opportunity to buy the exact domains you want – you never pay too much.
The “solid” domains these guys bought would never have been available for pennies on the dollar in the first place – because someone else would have bought them.
And, because adult drives the Internet, .xxx is a non.com in its own untouchable niche – with a potential for a secondary market – where every other non.com is all about the registry selling domains – but no secondary market speculation.
Paul says
@ Brian
I’m certainly not against quality .XXX domains. But there are a lot of junk .XXX domains languishing on Sedo with zero offers. Just stay on the right side of the fence.

What are the 25 .xxx name sold ? And how much to each .xxx names?
michellek says
Paul, have you met ICM salesman Chris LeBrun?
Paul says
@ Michelle
Nope. Why do you ask?
michellek says
@Paul Just wondering because you make very similar comments. Great YouTube video of him if you haven’t had the pleasure.

@ Michelle
LOL
My apologies for suggesting you might be Amanda36C in comments on a prior story. This apology, which is more than I will ever get from her, is sincere.
As for the YouTube video, I have no interest. Thanks anyway.

I don’t know and can’t find the rest of the list of domains…
But I think 185k for 25 premium .xxx is a damn go deal IRIS got!
Just singles.xxx could be worth it!
compared to:
quote Paul: with gay.xxx at 500K (last year…at opening)
and recent mobile.xxx at 185k (last week)
I Have invested as well .xxx …but with this huge drop of price speculations and price value of the .xxx domains…one can not stop to worry about his investment…and it makes one think again…
But I still think, like most of the people here: That .xxx will do just fine!
-Anyone know what is happening with the ICM hope and promise to give grandfather rights for .sex, .porn and .adult ?? Thanks

Found the price Singles.xxx $49,500
AdultChat.xxx $33,000,
sexvideos.xxx $15,510
etc…….

@ Eze
As far as I know, ICM has applied for all three extensions. They are the only applicant and promise to…
1) Give existing XXX domains holders the rights to their respective SEX, PORN & ADULT domains for a modest fee.
2) If an existing XXX domain holder does not want to use their respective SEX, PORN & ADULT domains, they need not pay anything and those domains will be blocked for use by anyone else.
I might not have bought any XXX domains were it not for the second point, as I have no intention of using the new gTLDs (assuming ICM gets them). Simply put, I would not have paid for example.xxx, simply to have someone else purchase example.adult.
Eze says
@ Paul
WOW thanks for the info!
”they are the only applicant for .sex .porn and .adult”
that’s crazy! hard to believe!
But OK wow that is reassuring for anyone that purchased .xxx
Your second point is also very interesting…some of my .xxx domains will go very well with .sex .porn and .adult. That was one of my reason to purchase some of my .xxx, to make a good combo!
Always an interesting topic!
Thanks again Paul!
Michael Berkens says
There is another applicant other than ICM for .Sex
Eze says
Good to know Mike! Thanks!
