Godaddy.com seems to be having a major outage at the time of publication.
Not only is Godaddy.com down, but millions of sites and email hosted on their servers, including many popular domain industry blogs.
Again as of time of publication, Elliotsblog.com, DomainNameWire.com and Domainincite.com are all down along with most if not all of the Godaddy network.
DomainControl.com which hosts some 34 million domain names, sites and email addresses appear to be down.
CashParking.com which is Godaddy parking service for domain names also appears to be down which hosts another 1.2 million domain names, making the total outage as bad as 35 million domain names.
Other domain industry sites have been taken down with the outage including escrow.com
The Twitter universe is buzzing about this major outage.
There is one unconfirmed report that the cause of the outage is that “Godaddy failed to renew the lease on several of their IP addresses for their nameservers while the hacking group Anonymous also has also claimed responsibility.
Godaddy.com tweeted about an hour ago:
“Status Alert: Hey, all. We’re aware of the trouble people are having with our site. We’re working on it. ”
Godaddy is now trending #2 on Twitter and DNS is #3
TechCrunch.com is reporting that “millions of sites” are affected and are currently down including email accounts.

TNTNames.com is hosted with Godaddy but we seem to be still up and running!

This guy here claims to have done it as an attack against GoDaddy: https://twitter.com/AnonymousOwn3r

Uh oh, thanks MHB for that headsup. Been wondering why some of my emails today were working and others bizarrely offline. Not having my brain permanently plugged into the twitterverse I didnt get the memo. Cheers – hope everyone’s stuff is back up soon 🙂
Mike Mann says
GoDaddy has no excuse really because even if the have 100M domains on a primary domain server that blows up or gets hacked then secondary DNS should kick in, even if that fails on site they should have tertiary DNS offsite at a world class provider like Sprint or AT&T or C&W that wont ever go down at same time as other two, fail.
Mike Mann says
TNTNames h0pefully has backup dns outside godaddy like everyone should even if primary is there. And godaddy is supposed to have its own backups, multiple backups for every server and domain is the standard, the invention of the internet/dns was specifically to have redundancy in the network at times of war, if people were hosting critical stuff at godaddy during war or economic survival war then they are hosed and failed the internet basics.

I just emailed them and told them their site was down and they didn’t respond. The next thing you know my email bounced back to me. So I just tried to call them, and their phone is busy.
This is definitely not awesome customer service.
Mike Mann says
Domain Name: TNTNAMES.COM
Domain servers in listed order:
NS61.DOMAINCONTROL.COM
NS62.DOMAINCONTROL.COM
they dont use godaddy at all, just registered it there, smarter obviously
Michael H. Berkens says
Donny
They probably have millions of calls coming in
Stu Holly says
AnonymousOwn3r.com is still available to reg
Acro says
@Mike – TNT is also down, and those are GD servers.
I would never host with GoDaddy: http://acro.net/blog/domains/one-more-reason-not-to-use-godaddy-hosting/
Tony Lam says
I had a pretty good dropcatch day under the circumstances. Will pass some good will forward. The following are available for registration:
doginsurancecost.com
mensitaliandressshoes.com
whyinvestmentbanking.com
communioncenterpieces.com
Michael H. Berkens says
Domaincontrol.com is the number 1 servers for godaddy 34 million domains are hosted on them
Acro says
The downtime does not affect domains registered at GoDaddy that use a different DNS, either parked or not. At least, none of mine appear to be affected. The main issue is with those that are hosted at GoDaddy.
Stu Holly says
Anonymous knocked out Escrow.com also
Michael H. Berkens says
Escrow uses DomainControl.com as its servers
Looks like domaincontrol.com and its 34 million domain names are out of commission
Tony Lam says
Everything seems to be back up? I just initiated a transaction on Escrow.com 5 mins ago. And about to register a couple domains on Godaddy.
Michael H. Berkens says
Godaddy.com is not resolving for me either.
I’m on the east coast maybe its coming back quicker in some parts of the country
Tony Lam says
Yep, Godaddy.com is back up but not fully functional here. Can’t register domains.
Michael H. Berkens says
Still not resolving for me in South Florida
Acro says
Michael – Use Google DNS. https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/
LM says
godaddy.com up in UK , however seems all sites (that Ive checked) hosted with them, and all names using domaincontrol.com nameservers are down and have been for quite a few hours now. Insane.
Michael H. Berkens says
Some 34 million domains use domaincontrol.com servers.
