In what appears to be the biggest .Co sale of 2012, I received an a copy of an escrow transaction from the seller showing they sold the domain name Cruises.co for $82,500.
The buyer seems to be the same buyer who bought Cruise.co from one of Mike Mann’s company’s Codom Holdings, LLC, in 2010 for $25K, Cruise.Co.Uk Ltd.
Cruise.co has the same logo Cruise.co.uk but a clearly different format.
The domain name Cruises.co is going to a registrar holding page for DomainMonster.com at the moment, but just recently closed according to the escrow.com transaction.
Its a great sale and a big boost for the .Co extension.
Moreover the domain would represent a price more than three 3 times what Mike Mann’s company sold the singular for just two years ago.
We will keep our eye on this and let you know when it starts to resolve.

WOW… Nice Sale!

I … want to… believe this … so badly. But like all these “blockbuster” .CO sales either 1) the WHOIS is sketchy / never changes or 2) it resolves to a mere parking page.
In this case it looks like it’s number 2.

Must be that time again when .CO renewals are coming up.

Oh Juan, silly colombian trix are for kids…

it’s hard to argue against sales like this for alternate extensions. Never been a big fan of .co myself but seems that is just me.
BFitz says
@Brad
You have .us listed for sale on your site which like .co will always live in .com’s shadow. However sales from any extension produce cash that’s green. The renewal was last month. Sedo says the extension is moving. Why are you so skeptical?
Alan says
Well, I’ll bet Robert Cline is thrilled…………..

Crusie.co looks great on the .co bright orange luggage tag for cruises and keepsake so your own luggage never gets lost at airports. Next conference stop at the .co booth and pick one up.
Grim says
Until larger .CO sales like this are more commonplace, I’ll reserve judgement on whether it’s a boost to the entire .CO universe, for the time being.
I only register .COs as defensive registrations for my .COM websites. But I can think of better uses for $35, like getting a nice bottle of Johnny Walker Black and some Guinness, for example.
Adam says
Owner of cruises.co was the same Colombian guy who sold onlinecasino.co for $100,000 (that transaction was very shady too).
Seller, iskia at yahoo.com, has a huge amount of top .co domains ( 99% park with Sedo) registered before general availability – this is how Mr Calle cares about development.
I think this is a new strategy of .co team to show that end users are interested in .co`s. They know that renewal is very low at the moment.
Joe says
Very nice sale
@Adam – the colombian guy who owns those top keywords got them during the .CO grandfathering phase, when registrants of .com.co domains were awarded the corresponding .COs.
professionaldomains says
onlinecasino.co appears to be a basic online blog currently. 100k does seem high for that one. cruises.co for 80 seems more convincing to me. Interesting points Grim..really wonder how much traffic loss there is between .co and .com
Sand Castle says
We’ve turned down $5K for sandcastle.co, twice – the interested party has multiple travel related sites up and running. Bottom line, .co will rank as well as a .com provided developmental capital is invested.
Mike Mann says
Cruisin for a bruisin in his bank account, I still have lots of the best one word .Co for sale when you are ready to strike.
Adam says
@Mike Mann
We know you have many one worded .co domains. We know it as we know that almost all your .co domains sold were bought by the same person and without that person your success with .co would be none

“I think this is a new strategy of .co team to show that end users are interested in .co`s.”
– what just chalk up the Grand or so in Escrow.com costs to .co “Marketing” ?
For me any time a sale like this goes thru it is good news for everybody – well beyond the .co bigots – actually it makes the one they really want, Cruise.com, and all .com’s, worth that much more.
David Yang says
It’s incredible about the news. On the top of the case it’s positive for .CO’s future but on the other side it looks like a special transaction for the entire of .CO market at present. It’s desired to see an increasing trend rapidly but the firstly the overall economy must be recovery.
.CO’s investment has to be in long term like .COM’s footprint, but there are still lots of uncertainties around the marketplace.

Kind of annoyed that cruise.co.uk have bought this thing to be honest. It looks like they’re just buying up any potential domains which could be used by competitors. Not good for competiton at all…
cruisesmobi says
Does anyone know whether cruise.co is being developed? I see that cruises.co.uk has a pretty nice site on it. If they aren’t the same company it is really sort of confusing that they allow this type of a mashup.
John Grech says
I think when people start to realise that .co stands for company and that if you want www. INTERSTATETRUCKING.CO plastered on all your trucks that theres only 1 domain thats able to do that for a businesss. So names like pcsoftware.co or formalhire.co bikehire, limosinehire and or any other name that makes sense pertaining to a company then imho these names will be worth having. Same as .me imho, whats the point of having one word .me. Unless its like meet.me , identify.me or verifies.me and the like then i think their pretty bloody pointless.
BrianWick says
So John Grech –
I am now just completing a sale of a .com to a business that is set up and operating under .co – their words about “.co” are not as kind as your rhetoric – sorry but we are in times now where we (and businesses) need to cut thru all the bullshit –
