Over 200 new domain name registrations yesterday certainly indicate that Las Vegas Sands Corporation is looking to place a casino in Canada and it looks like Toronto is the target.
Not only did Sands register domains for a casino with alternative names such as the sands, the Venetian and the Palazzo but they registered some corporate names and some charitable domain such as ontariosandsfoundation.com and some names warning players about playing too much like ontariosandsplayresponsibly.com

I do not make the rules – I just play by them – and apparantly they do as well – when they do not even care about stray traffic beyond .org and .net!

I looked up some of the first ones in the list, and the .ca’s are taken too. Not sure if Sands owns them, or someone regged them based on this list.
If they are taking this wide approach to domains for a potential business in Canada, they should own the .ca’s too.
Most casinos in Canada have some government ownership, so this is a surprise.
Checked one of them in the .ca Whois, and SandsCanada.ca was registered yesterday to:

A couple others I checked are the same, and Venetian.com is the Sands.
Interestingly, Sands.ca and TheSands.ca are previously registered, but not to the company.
the thing is when you are registering such huge portfolio to strengthen your online presence, you should consider keywords that are more likely to be searched or entered directly into browser.
in this case, it seems they totally missed the research and just bulk registered whatever came to their mind at the moment.
The LasVegasSandsCasinos.com is just registered couple hours ago !
I really like to know who is the decision maker in their IT dept. !
Lets put the 200 registrations in perspective. If MarkMonitor charged them $ 25. a piece (remember, the .nets have lower registration cost), $ 5k is chicken feed to the Sands Corp?
It cost them more than that just to start the corporate jet.

Its a shot in the dark, they are one of 4 or 5 groups making a pitch that will be looked at in October I believe. On a side note, here in Ontario NO casino is owned by the government, that would be took much work. They simply have the ability to hand out a license and take a nice cut. All private management and private money borrowed or lent to build the casino(s), not just Canadian money either.
They are all profitable and to open one in Toronto would hurt Niagara greatly but we do not expect what is best for the people to be done, just the best for the gov and their pocket.
Another fact, most Torontonians do NOT want a casino at the harbour.

Oh that is a big lesson, huge mirror about inveting domain names, but I think they not only have alot money but the project to do that.
I love to share it for Vietnam’s company and corporation, they lost their brand domain dot COM but don’t care …this is a big mirror and very different….
