If you check out iTunes right now under best selling books you will see the top 3 best sellers are all by the author E L James.
The 3 best sellers are transcending into pop culture phenomenon status.
The trilogy of books are:
Fifty Shades of Grey
Fifty Shades Darker
Fifty Shades Freed.
The books have quite a bit of erotic sex in them.
The first book, Fifty Shades of Grey was covered by the folks over at Saturday Night Live this past weekend.
The Internet has been buzzing about who is going to star in the upcoming movie.
While the author registered the domain FiftyShades.com and 50Shades.com way back in 2007 she failed to registered the matching .com for the actual book titles where just recently registered on March 1st of this year all at Godaddy all under privacy.
FiftyShades.com and 50Shades.com redirect to the author’s site at ElJamesAuthor.com
All 6 of the matching .com of each of the 3 books (with the word fifty and the number 50) appear to have been registered by the same person and now host a “fan page” which of course have Ads Sense along with some stories about the books series and the upcoming movie(s).
The domain name ElJames.com was registered in 2011 actually several days before the author registered the domain name ElJamesAuthor.com.
ELJames.com goes to a Godaddy Placeholder.
It appears the author knew the importance of locking up domain names, but for some reason neither the author, his publisher, agent and other handlers, thought about the registering the matching domains of the actual book titles and soon to be movie titles which look like they are heading to become the next Twilight.

Anyone know what the deal with ‘gameofthrones.com’ is ? That show is sick and one of the biggest on TV right now (as well as a book series) … and according to sales reports it sold a few months back for $2000 (way after the first season aired) … but NOT to HBO. I’m shocked HBO or the book’s author hasn’t gone after it …. that’s a BIG domain. It’s just parked.

here we are dropping noob domainers another hint. mhb is throwing the noobs yet another bone.
now, maybe some catch the hint and will start registering book title domain names. (there are some domainers who are obsessed with registering upcoming movie titles and playing cat and mouse with american movie studios. not exactly the brightest minds in domaining.)
unfortunately, some of these noob domainers will be stupid enough to park their book title domain names and show ads for… you guessed it…
books.
say hello to the udrp.
here’s another idea.
register titles of *romance novels* as domain names. the more “generic sounding” (capable of multiple meanings) they are, the better.
park them.
but do NOT show ads for books, or whatever other classes of goods the publisher might have registered for trademarks in.
instead, show ads for FOOD. specifically, CHOCOLATE.
get it?
if nothing else, you will make the udrp a much more interesting game. you might also increase your chances of winning dramatically.
it’s called “exploiting longtime, obvious, fixable flaws in the icann domain name system.” and exposing the hypocrisy of the udrp. (the udrp is lots of things but it certainly is not UNIFORM… as in “uniformly applied”.)
don’t blame domainers. blame icann. they make money from trademark infringement.
