TechCrunch.com just covered the story of the company behind the domain name GetFunded.com “which will be a “crowdfunding platform for entrepreneurs who are seeking new investments in their businesses and ideas,”
What TechCrunch didn’t discuss is the very interesting story of how the current holder of the domain name got the domain.
The domain name, Getfunded.com was in “Pending Renewal or Deletion” status just in Feburary.
Mike Mann’s Domain Asset Holdings got the domain either from the registrar DomainDiscover directly or through a drop service and had ownership of the domain in March according to DomainTools.com, and according to Mike Mann’s Facebook page he sold the domain for $25,000 just a few weeks later for $25,000 to the current owner and the subject of the TechCrunch Story.
Another great domain story for everyone except the guy who let the domain name drop.

Nice, he sells one domain out of 100, 000 and time to bang the drum. I don’t begrudge Mike (Mann) it’s a nice flip, but I think the way you report sales like these is a bit lopsided statistically.
Tim says
Depends on how he got the domain. Did he catch it himself, did he use his portfolio power and get the registrar to give it to him, did he get it at snapnames or something like that?

Before the bashing or the counter bashing begins, let’s put it in perspective… Your post is the equivalent of me buying a machine gun with a 10,000 round capacity, shooting at a target 10 feet away, hitting a bullseye with one round, and me exclaiming I am an expert marksman.

I think if mike spends 100K on domains register 14,000 names and sells just 10 names from this list for 100k that is his cost covered.
ok he has renewal fees after the 1st year and staff costs etc but I still think it isnt such a bad move.
He has took a gamble some might say he is stupid… but look at BuyDomains.com when he sold that for a huge sum a few years ago and he still reaps rewards owning 15% of that business that turns over normally 500K+ per week…
I see this going the same way with DomainMarket.com in 5 years time he will get an offer he cant refuse….
Aslong as he keeps the sales coming in covering his costs and making a small profit whats is he doing wrong?
He gives alot to charity and is nice enought to share his sales with the rest of the industry.
Mike aint such a bad guy I dont know why people give it hard when someone reports one of his sales?
Dean says
There is absolutely nothing wrong with being the Wallmart of Domains, but let’s not try and pass it off as Saks Fifth Avenue…

Nice sale –

Isn’t domainassetholdings.com mike’s company ? If so there’s more to the story. In 2011, he dropped his own domain , picked it back up and sold it. Also back in 08 another domainer appears to have been the owner.

when some says they need to getfunded… what i really think is that they are unfunded.com just my opinion. other opinions may differ.

The CNET article last week regarding Mike’s 24 hour domain purchase stirred up a pretty lively discussion. A little bit of name calling going on, but for the most part it is pretty civil. It’s interesting to read the thoughts of those who are not familiar with the domain industry.

Congrats on the nice sale.

Adam
Interesting that he seemed to own the domain then it went into pending delete then he got it back
strange

Just imagine how many he sells and does not report.

I am super excited about this sale as well as the recent announcement about the new JOBS act because I own both RequestFunding.com and AngelDough.com which do you think sounds better for a crowd funding site?
@AndrewHazen
Adrian Keys says
@Andrew…prefer the latter.
SF says
Good to see a domain sale in this new industry.
It appears the crowdfunding rush is starting.
