Rick Schwartz may have just bought the next category killer domain name for under $4k within the last month.
This week the Internet has been buzzing about what is broadly called “Smart Glasses”
Google’s own smart glasses product has been the subject of hundreds or stories in this past week
Google’s smart glasses project has been referred to as Google Glasses or Project Glass.
Smart Glasses maybe wind up being the new broad term for a product like cell phones or tablets as there seem to be a lot of manufactures for this new product.
Although this past week has been full of news of Google’s product, there is are other manufactures including Apple, that have plans to roll out their own version of Smart Glasses products in the near future.
Yes the domain name SmartGlasses.com was sitting for the taking, on one of the registrar aftermarket products either NameMedia’s DLS or SedoMLS but either way Rick purchased the domain off of a Directnic.com feed for under $4k.
It’s great story because there is always a sense in the domaining world that the old guys wouldn’t have been successful if they didn’t start in the 1990’s.
TechCrunch published an article on the topic the other day:
“”Apple should seek to capitalize on Google’s lack of hardware experience, and spend some of its cash reserves to lock up critical component manufacturers. Even if Project Glass ends up an ugly mess, Apple could still make eyeglass computing beautiful. This technology sure seems like the future, so Apple needs to be ready to pounce. But the problem remains that it has no social network or other key services to power its own version””
“Despite its lack of hardware experience, Google is the best positioned company to make, or at least provide the software for eyeglass computers.
Some other another old domainer just hand registered these domain names a couple of days ago:
eyeglasscomputing.com
eyeglasscomputer.com
eyeglasscomputers.com

A new twist on MyVision.com 🙂
JJ says
Maybe he did, maybe he didn’t. It’s a calculated risk and looks pretty solid for the price.
JamesD says
It’s worth more than $4k as a brandable for a spectacles retailer.
It’s no wonder that these sales platforms keep saying that names sell better with BIN pricing….what they can’t say though, is how much money is left on the table because of it.

May call it VoiceGlasses as eyeglasses use voice control to command the internet-linked.
Alan says
A year or two ago they called TeaParty dot com the next Multi million dollar name…………
funny how these things pan out.
In any case, I can’t see Google Glasses being used by the main stream, it will be in my opinion,
a short lived novelty.
BrianWick says
Alan,
Tea Party was propogated more by liberals (vs. members themselves) to label Hillary’s “vast right wing conspiracy”.
The Point is that current event stuff has a limited shelf life – agreed where smart glasses (i.e. derived from smart phone presumably) will have a much longer shelf life.
Brad says
SmartGlasses.com is a nice brand, but I expect more from a “category killer” domain. This is not even a category yet.
Brad
G Ariyas says
Smart Glass is also could be used by a company producing touch screen tabletops or windows. Check out Samsung Smart Window.
Gene says
It’s been a long time since I’ve read such short-sighted comments.
This technology is absolutely going to transform that way we interact with computers, data, and the Internet. And if you really don’t believe that – or that companies are in a major scramble to develop, design, and perfect smart glasses/lenses -, then you need to put down your XBox, walk away from your trailer park, and start spending those same eight hours a day reading technology blogs and article.
Here’s a rule of thumb: If you don’t know what Graphene is, or have never heard of terms like Multiferroic, or Antiferromagnetism, you’re not reading enough. So, until you get up to speed, you should probably keep your ‘…this technology won’t catch-on’ opinions to yourself.
I have no science training at all, yet I’ve made it a point to keep up with breakthrough technologies, and put my money where my mouth is.
Tony says
It’s definitely worth the $4K gamble, however, I would like to point out that Google strikes out at least 10 times for each home run they hit.
As for Gene’s comment about keeping up with breakthrough technologies, the same applies. Most will never materialize or are 50 years away. Some examples so far of that are nanotechnology, fiber optic computing, flying cars, quantum computing, etc, etc, etc…
RAYY says
Graphene will definitely be the next big thing for the near future in consumer products, materials in architecture buildings, aircraft, marine, medical technology etc…..
A company in Australia submitted a trademark application for the word “Graphene” , it was refused by IP Australia. Because Graphene is a generic word, widely used by scientists.
BrianWick says
Tony,
“Most will never materialize or are 50 years away”
The flying car was first introduced nearly 60 years ago – and according to something I just read a few days back on money.com, there are now legit prototypes being marketed – very cool video infact.
I would venture to say 50years ago something like smart glasses were thrown around or star trek or other scifi shows
Rick Schwartz says
“It’s been a long time since I’ve read such short-sighted comments.”
I think it demonstrates something that is more prevalent in the majority of domainers and that is unfortunate. It is exactly what Mike talks about in the article.
It’s called speculation and mining and it is certainly alive and well in domaining. That is why the old timers still hand register the domains that everyone says are gone. Every hand registered domain is speculative. $8 on Roulette except instead of 35-1 it could be 100,000 to one or more.
I was out trying to hand register the domain. Ok, it was taken. But with a cheap price tag, I grabbed it. I have no idea who owned it. It was on privacy. Everyone had the same chance. But I was in the mines digging which is the way I do things.
I hand register at least 1-2 domains EVERY single day of the week even tho the smarter guys know they are all gone. Most don’t pan out. Most may have a short shelf life. But then others like BuffetRule.com, $20 this week, make up for ones I get wrong.
Mike just grabbed those domains he listed. $24. Those that laugh really are clueless and have a lot of nerve trying to pass themselves off as domainers.
I guess those folks really could use some “Smart Glasses” lol
Jp says
It is absolutely amazing what can change in a lifetime. When my parents were kids there were no computers. When I was born there was no cellphone, we’ve all heard this before. You never know what to expect. I’m sticking to my space travel domain I reg’d a while back.
Also anyone else notce if it aint the ‘i’ prefix it’s the word ‘eye’. All those crazy ‘eye’ instead of ‘i’ domain typoes just got more valuable.
Jp says
The problem with it by the way is voice control will never be accurate enough, especially not to walk around with it in front of our face. It’s an unsolvable problem, even talking to another human is faulty at times if they don’t hear you right, and very dependent on the person.
Either way the fact that this is probably already existing in a prototype is amazing, and Rick’s domain at this moment in time is a hole in one, and still will probably be until the computers get implanted in our brains. $4k was totally worth it, just for most better to buy something for $4k that at the time of buying it seems like will have a ROI more soon because not everybody has stacks of $4k laying around. The naysayers sound jealous to me. We all make our own decisions on what we want to speculate on.

“It’s great story because there is always a sense in the domaining world that the old guys wouldn’t have been successful if they didn’t start in the 1990′s.”
I dont agree with the sentiment of those that say people like Rick Schwartz and the rest of you coffin dodgers were at the right place at the right time, I think these people would have found success regardless of when they were born. However taking a $4,000 speculative punt on this domain is not something that Joe Blogs would be in a position to do 10 or 20 times a year and then hold for 4-5 years whilst they wait for that investment to MAYBE mature.
MHB – Although I agree with the article and the notion of buying future trend domains, unless Mr Schwartz sells this domain in the next 12 months it doesnt really prove the point you were alluding to, even though I agree you are right.

ooooohhh noo, not the dreaded “hand registered” domain. Don’t people know by now that hand registering domains is for fools. “All the good domains were taken years ago” only an idiot would hand register a domain. At least that is what 99% of the domain blogs would lead you to believe. LMAO…
Dean says
Wtf is a “hand registered” domain anyways? Did all the great names just fall into the early domainer’s laps? Did they just magically appear one day? Did not every domain under the sun start it’s humble journey as a “hand registered” domain. It’s a moot point is it not? There is still plenty of gold to be mined, only an idiot or someone who does not know better will tell you otherwise.
RK says
I think Rick has done a great deal by paying $4k for smart glasses.
I will offer $5k to him and will close in a week.
I am willing to send payment first and then Rick can transfer the domain after he gets the payment. I believe smartglasses.com is a great domain.
I have myself collected 16 domains related to this field of Augmented Reality Computing such as EyeComputing.com, ConputingEyeglasses.com, FreeSmartGlasses.com, TheSmartGlasses.com SupperGoggle.com, SuperGoggles.com etc etc.
It is a 5 year play imo.
We will see…..but 16 names at registration fee is a gamble I can afford.
Thanks!
Rich says
Either I’m getting better at buying domains or there’s a lot more .com domains available now then 3yrs ago.
Some one tell me!
There is plenty of gold still left.
C.A.R. says
With a steady spike in home and bio-sensor use, and the “internet of things” putting sensors everywhere my ‘category killer’ money is on SensorGlasses.com -that I got for reg fee 2 years ago, along with SensorGoggles.com
This technology is just around the corner as it really just moves the mobile phone screen into eyeglasses and goggles to deliver a safer ‘heads-up’, see-through, experience. The goggles actually hit the market in 2011.
Gene says
@ Dean
“Did not every domain under the sun start it’s humble journey as a “hand registered” domain. [ ] There is still plenty of gold to be mined, only an idiot or someone who does not know better will tell you otherwise.”
I couldn’t have said it better, myself. Excellent points.
Some fool wrote the other day (http://goo.gl/h6Nac) that if your primarily consists of hand-registered domain names, you’re going to “fail as a domainer”. Well, I suppose that if your entire portfolio consists of 36-character, 7-word dot-info names, that assessment would be true.
But for those of us who have strategically ‘mined’ for gold since the mid-to-late 90’s, learned painful lessons early-on, continually pruned our holdings, and can afford to stay in the game for the long-haul, there’s no lost sleep at night.
Every single day, there’s some new technological breakthrough that has the potential to (genuinely) change the world. And (as Rick discussed) while you need to diversify the (newly) hand-registered domains to ensure that the winners can offset the losers, there’s non-stop opportunity – every single day.
BrianWick says
@MobileWallet.net
If you are not comfortable in a 55 hour factory job – buying non.com’s just might keep you in that situation – sorry.
I do not make the rules – I play by them – and the rules say .com is the only one on the shelf – that means in this case SmartGlasses.com has THE value – and only if it is built into a huge brand will SmartGlasses.(notcom) have any value – other than a stoke to sell it to another sucker – not a good way to go thru life,
If Robert Cline feels selling an occasional .co for a few grand is more than his renewal costs for his entire portfolio – good for him – but he will never get to the grail he likely dreams about.
Josh says
Worth a gamble I suppose.
However looks like 3-4 other very likely names going to be used instead as mentioned above. Google rather use their own name or a name they came up with instead I would imagine.
I can appreciate his spirit in it though.

@Back
Life is long why do you want to measure success in a one year factor?
It maybe 5 years before a new concept takes hold, you need to have a long outlook
There are a few other guys that get it like Brian, but the others, the haters, well its pretty sad
You need to root for success not for failure.
Those the try to make it, I applaud them, their success, their try to find gold.
Its not easy
As one who has tried and keeps on hocking 365 days a year I wish them the best
If they find or create another success story, well I would rather write about those 1000X more than I would write about failures.

Cant pass up on the zasco lasco bait – presumably the guy that just bought the self proclaimed “category killer” DigitalArchery.com 3-4 weeks ago on March 12, 2012 – a term apparantly associated with a new TLd lottery process.
So here we have a .com apparantly in auction for a term that is used SOLELY for all the new non.com garbage being pitched to the naive and gullable newcomers to domains.

Brad says
“No that is why he got it for under $4k rather than 400K”
The domain is an excellent two word .COM brand that is worth the $4K price on that alone, but seriously….
$400K? 3D.com only sold for $500K.
Not every “category killer” is worth 100’s of thousands.
I can list category killing commercial viable terms that someone like Frank Schilling even sold for under $50K recently in mature markets.
Brad
Brad says
“Berkens just made Bob Parsons $20,000 with this post.”
No doubt. Posts like this will always benefit the registrars.
Adding prefixes, suffixes, hyphens, numbers, etc. to a term then registering them in an off extension is not normally going to win.
3D should have taught most people this lesson. There is only interest in top quality domains. Even popular trends will not elevate garbage domains to greatness.

I dont know how much of your last comment is aimed towards me, where it stops refering to me personally and where you start talking about other people that have posted here in general, but I am going to assume that its all towards my comment for now.
If you re-read what I said, I agree with you on 1. the premise of buying future trend domains and 2. that you, Rick and the other survivors of the titanic who are investing in domain names are very smart buyers of names up until this very day.
My point is that THIS EXAMPLE is not one that is a viable investment model for Joe Blogs who earns $25,000 a year in a factory who is looking to invest in domain names. That is unless Rick sells this domain in the forseeable future which is 12-18 months as opposed to a timeline of 5 years plus.
If Rick is buying 1 $4,000 domain a month for the 5 year time horizon that would equate to an investment of $250,000. This figure is OK for you and Rick who are multi millionaires but its not something that your average domainer could do.
I do not hate on anyone and I root for success for everyone, even when I see Robert the .Co king sell a domain it warms the cockells of my heart.
When you write an article like this bear in mind that people will go out and spend $thousands on shitty hand regs but worse still some muppet may go out and blow $X,XXX, that they cant afford, on some future tech like flying wheelchairs. The comment I wrote before is not to “hate” but to just emphasis that some people should be aware that other people, like Rick, have different pockets and far different timelines when it comes to seeking ROI.
Sorry for all the typos etc, I havent had my coffee yet but calling me a hater annoyed me into a response 🙂

They won’t be called ARGlasses or some other future trend sounding name. People don’t want to feel like dorks buying these things. Future domainers tend to get caught up in the tech and register all the Star Trekky dorky names while marketers know that people prefer cutesy names or names that convey technological innovation yet don’t sound like they were conjured up by an MIT nerd. “Smart” says it all, it’s tried and true and used commonly in other tech products. First you had a phone, then you add Internet capabilities and other features and now you have a smartphone. So, now you have glasses and soon those smartphone features will be incorporated and voila, you have smart glasses. Google will likely brand them with their own name but others will follow and likely call them “smart glasses.”

Two great quotes come to mind:
“If the fool would persist in his folly he would become wise.”
“A man who carries a cat by the tail learns something he can learn no other way”
If you think you are going to get rich overnight “hand registering” it’s doubtful, but persist and you will succeed beyond your wildest imagination.

The one thing I have learned through my years is that all failure and all success come from within the 6 inch playing field between our ears. There is only one person out of 6 billion that can cause you to fail. Winners always want others to succeed and win while losers lash out and want others to be like them. Go figure. This thread at least shows the difference. The first step in success is not telling those that are successful what they are doing wrong. Its copying what they do right. 😉

I wasn’t a multi millionaire when I started. Every domain I purchased was purchased from the earnings of the previous purchases. That is how you grow a business and make a snowball out of it. I just stuck to certain core beliefs that to this day MOST just dismiss and laugh at except for the domain millionaires that employ the same techniques and even better ones than mine.
You forgot a very big piece of the equation. This domain already gets type in traffic. The chances are that will grow. How do I know this? Because I have been repeating the process for 17 years. If I bet correctly this domain will make me revenue. Oh, sorry, it already is making revenue. But when you learn about equations you start plugging in the numbers. $10/day and I can buy one of these every year. $20/day. I do ALL measurements by DAY and then multiply by 365 and then by 10 years at a minimum..
But even if I played the flipping game, this is a highly marketable domain and while most won’t, can’t, don’t know how to sell a domain for 6 and 7 figures, I do. Let me count how many domains I have sold to domainers. ZERO! But selling is not my game. Revenue streams are! I would much rather have a domain earning $100/day than $100,000 cash.
To me a domain that earns $100 a day is $36,500/year and $365,000 over the next decade. And yes payouts go up and down. I have lived through 4 busts already. That’s what happens in these things. They inflate, they bust, they inflate again, they bust again. It is 100% cyclical until it dies. When it dies, it won’t matter. But the domain itself (Land) will still have value.
We will all see what happens in real time and we can revisit this in 6 months, a year, 2 years. The question”I” asked was could this possibly define a category? It may or may not work. If the category works, it becomes very valuable. But what gives me the confidence to take the risk is looking who is pouring money into the new sector. Google, Microsoft, Apple and the rest. Surely these folks are smarter than me and have a lot more risk involved. I see no risk. I see an interesting ride.

I think it’s too soon to know if “smartglasses” is just a passing trend or if it will define a category of product. I can see great technological applications for surgeons, pilots, mechanics, etc, but whether it will catch on as a mass consumer product is questionable. It’s a domain I might have hand registered, but would never pay $4,ooo for. Than again, I am neither a millionaire, nor have “crazy money” to throw away.
Bob says
Good one Mr. Schwartz, I see you did your homework on this too. Microsoft just filed a trademark on SMARTGLASS on January 26, 2012 and it covers (computer hardware and software for phones, mobile devices, televisions, video game consoles, media players and audiovisual devices) Ser.# 85526590
But because their filing date is January 26, 2012. in my opinion as I understand the laws it should not be a problem with your dot com. It does not proceed the filing date of (SMARTGLASSES.com) which is 28-feb-2004, but for all those that just jumped on every other variation since January 26, 2012 all I can say is good luck.

If this technology standardizes, it has a pretty big implication with how people will browse the web and in turn, how domain names relate to that experience.
It’s a full-on conflation of both app browsing and speech to text.
This would have a consequence to domain names, mostly negative but for a few types of domains, potentially positive.

Does this make ” SmartGlasses.com ” only valuable to Microsoft ? What other company would buy this domain if Microsoft has the trademark ? Looks like this whole “Smart Glasses” thing is over from a domainers point of view before it has begun. Being new to domaining Im not 100% sure if what I am saying is correct, some enlightenment would be much appreciated.

Holographic is more of an illusion with a sole purpose in mind, but Smart Glasses could be a functioning product with multi uses.

@Tom
I definitely agree that Smart Glasses WILL be a functioning product (suite), developed and offered by all the major equipment makers.
Moreover, holograms will be – and already are (see: http://goo.gl/VopU1 ) – major solutions, in-and-of themselves. And the combination of holograms/AR and Smart Glasses will be unstoppable.
Considering that the iPAD and other tablets are primarily content consumption devices, it’s a sure bet that Smart Glasses/Frames technology will replace them within 2-4 years. Maybe that’s why AAPL decided to drop the ‘generation’ moniker for, what should have been called the ‘iPAD 3’. Maybe they’re making great strides in this Smart Glasses field, so much so that their own trialers are preferring the frames to the tablets.

Glass and Glasses are two different dictionary meanings. Glasses you wear on your head. Glass covers a tablet, notebook, smartphone screen, or desktop. Or, it could be a window. For that matter, SmartWindow is already registered in several extensions.
There is likely no conflict between: SmartGlass and SmartGlasses.

Rick Schwartz is now living up to his admitting he buys “pigeon shit” domains, based on his description of those type of domains on his blog.
(BTW, since when is anyone’s purchase of a Future Trend domain name for mid four figures important enough to to a vanity piece on it? Because, in your words, it’s a “steal” at $4k? Or, Michael, you are admitting that FT domains have some potential significant value, yes? It couldn’t be because Mr. Schwartz’s every business move should be announced, could it?
I hope every domain investor who has bought and is buying domains focused on research of upcoming trends and technology remembers this, and thinks TWICE about selling their domains for only four figures. Hang on to them until they mature, because the “Domain King” no longer believes in his previous motto of “Because right now, it [the domain] is yet to be transformed. It is still Pigeon Shit.”
Rick has come clean and finally, good GOD finally, he’s backtracked on his own rhetoric. I actually hear angels clapping. 😉

Stephen, in reading over your blog, particularly after your catastrophic “Future Trend” domain auction that everyone with foresight better than Ray Charles knew was going to be a disaster, you are not someone who’s worth listening to, on anything.
Instead of admitting honorable failure, you blamed and made excuses- a classic sign of a loser.
You’re one of those weird kooks who likes to advance the idea that you’re some kind of ‘inside player’ by doing things like coining your own acronyms that have no industry relevance outside of your own mind (or, should I say, CYOATHNIROOYOM). In looking over several of the domains you own, many aren’t even worth the cost to carry them at 8 bucks a piece, which tells everyone what kind of credability you’re working with (still selling those “Certified Stephan Douglass Domain Appraisals?” LMAO)
If I were you, I wouldn’t be bashing Rick Schwartz about much. Yes, he has some stuff that he can be bashed about, but he is generally someone worth listening to, whereas you absolutely are not.

The tomorrowland domain soothsayers operate in a dimension unlike the one that most of us mere mortals experience. No point in trying to reach them on a board like this. I suggest trying a Speak & Spell device like the one used by ET.
Feeling Froggy In The 'Bu says
@ Ghost,
First of all, you’re a Schwartz peon. Period.
The Future Trend Domain Auction™ WAS in fact sabotaged. Not many people knew that EVERY DOMAIN SITE I owned for promoting the auction was DDOS attacked for three months before the auction, eliminating the use of those sites for continuing the promotion. Excuses for the “failure” of that domain auction? You never read what I said before the auction was held: “THIS DOMAIN AUCTION IS SIMPLY A TEST OF THE UNDERSTANDING OF FUTURE TREND DOMAINS BY DOMAIN OWNERS”.
We had a 160 page pdf file to explain the value of the FT domains we were selling and expected it to be placed on Moniker to be downloaded by those interested. Moniker never put the pdf download up for buyers to inspect. That hurt the sales because it didn’t show you the value of a 3Dprinting domain name. You didn’t know what that was 3 months ago, maybe you still don’t. Too bad for you.
As far as our pre-auction setup, our sites, attacked by DDOS for several months, couldn’t promote the information either. We were lucky to just get the auction listed. However, no explanations of those domains was available to potential investors and speculators, because most of those domains were discovered by intelligent timely research into future technologies. If you don’t understand that, I’ll be glad to answer your questions privately.
As someone who organized one of the top 5 domain auctions in the world, it seems, though odd, that you are suckered into being a pawn for Schwartz. Let’s see you, Mr. Ghost, put on a domain auction. I’ve done the biggest in the world. You haven’t. I’m just answering a personal attack by you based on nothing truthful about myself and the other 300+ members in the FT domain network. Surprise! Without selling domains we wanted to promote correctly but couldn’t, we did collect all the smart FT domainers into the FTN, which is obviously a REAL domain category you haven’t understood, don’t know about, even though Monte Cahn interviewed me in 2006 where I described it, and hundreds of domainers started to research and connect with us. What’s really stupid about your comments about me is that this very blogsite you’re commenting on features the biggest comment section in the domain industry, in HISTORY, based solely on FT domains (over 4,000 comments). So… you haven’t done your homework, little boy.
Funny you didn’t name one of my domains that you think are “worthless”. Since you’re a “ghost”, and have hidden your identity like a pussy, there’s no way I can challenge you to a “head to head” competition of who owns the most valuable five domains.
Other than that, my point isn’t to “bash Rick Schwartz”. Anyone with an IQ over 100 can see that Rick bashes himself every time he posts something. Class, refinement, professionalism, bitterness and cynicism elude Rick on most of his posts. It’s sad, because he is positioned to be a real icon for our industry if he didn’t write like an angry 10 year old with a chip on his shoulder. My message to him has always been “tone down the rhetoric, stop being attack-oriented and start being a voice for the domain community.”
About what I know — when you renew your domains using whatever registrar, remember my name, since I designed that management system for Bulkregister that every registrar copied within 2 years, including GoDaddy. Let me know what you’ve done lately.
I guarantee you this: The FT domains my company and the FTN membership we have owns, eclipses Rick’s domain values in total, “when those domains mature”. But right now, according to you and Rick, “SolarClothing.com” is just pigeon shit.
Sadly, your domains are “ghosts”, probably worthless, because, you have NO presence in this industry, you have nothing but the ethereal name of “ghost”. Too scared to talk to me to my face and reveal who you are. That speaks volumes on YOUR credibility.
As far as our “evaluation services”, talk to me when you’ve evaluated over 1 million domains that helped a major company sell their company for over $35 million dollars to now the second largest registrar in the world, based on your recommendations. BTW: with hundreds of Successclick clients in the last 8 years, not one client has ever complained.
In the meantime, show-up to make this blow-up, or just shut up.
Thanks for commenting, and allowing me to explain things better. I pray you have a good day, either way.
peace

What are we supposed to be arguing about again?
The fact that the bags of smoke you tried to peddle in your ‘future trend domains’ required a 160 page PDF to make their case and you are now wondering why it was an utter failure? Funny, last five figure domain sale I made required two sentences. Or the fact that you sincerely believe the reason your auction failed was because it was ‘sabotaged’ by some unseen hand?
Steve-O, you’ve gone from being amusingly eccentric to amusingly stupid to now, delusionaly stupid.
The reason your auction failed is because it was based on (your) terrible domaining methodology and (your) poor strategic planning. You’re apparently the dumbest ‘old timer’ in the domain game, swept up in the same wave of 3d idiocy (rebranded as “Future Trend Domaining” and became like a big, retarded Gulliver leading around the intellectual Lilliputians. Once it became clear what a disaster the “3d” had become, most of them quietly made their exit and moved on to other hobbies but apparently, you’re still here.
Again, please, don’t bash Rick Schwartz for anything.
Rick Schwartz didn’t do anything wrong.
The reason your auction was such an abysmal failure had nothing to do with grand conspiracies. The failure here is your own poor insight and equally poor foresight. I sure hope you’ve gotten your excusebook handy for why the next “Future Trend Domain Auction” is a failure, and the one after that, and the one after that… or perhaps deep down, you’ve really figured it out and will let the first one be the last one, then ride off into the sunset shaking your fist.

@Elliot, (owner of this blog)
First of all, prove to me that it was YOU, Elliot Silver, that wrote “I agree with Ghost” against my legit post trying to “educate” Ghost.
How do you tell someone that your sites were down for three months due to DDOS attacks prior to your auction? How do you explain to them that I was WARNED by someone who is in FLorida, about some “top domainer” who was out to sabotage any company he viewed as a threat or who he looked at as an enemy, and within days, my blogsites all went down?
The reason why we needed a PDF file explaining Future Trend domains was for FUTURE SPECULATION and helping potential buyers to understand what the domains’ potential was by seeing youtube videos and newslinks supporting the value of the FT domains we were selling. That’s a bad strategy?
The Ghost doesn’t take any of that into consideration, because he’s incapable of understanding the evolution of the domain industry.
I’m not going to waste my time anymore discussing Future Trend domains to domainers who don’t happen to own any, for their own reasons. Since I’ve sold over $120,000 in FT domains in the last three years, way before they even matured, there’s no reason to continue on this thread.
Come back to me, Ghost, when we announce major growth in this area, and when we sell any of our thousands of excellent FT domains for five and six figures. Since I’ve turned down offers as high as $35,000 for one of my 3D domains, I’m thinking — yeah… some forward-thinking investors and advertisers see the value here.
Other than that, I’m done here. Everyone who knows and has worked with me understands exactly what my experience and knowledge is regarding domains current and future value.
Sorry Ghost, that you think this area of domains is not for you, and that FT domainers are buying into –your words: “apparently the dumbest ‘old timer’ in the domain game, swept up in the same wave of 3d idiocy (rebranded as “Future Trend Domaining” and became like a big, retarded Gulliver leading around the intellectual Lilliputians.” So you’ve just given the grist for the mill that will provide a quote for hundreds of FT domainers to remember you… OH WAIT, THEY CAN’T! You’ve hidden your name cuz you’re so… ummmmm…. like a little girl who stole candy and blamed it on her little brother.
As for the Ghost’s comments about my “attraction” to “3D” domains, the domains I submitted to my auction, and other FT domainers, except for one, had nothing to do with “3D”. You’re just blathering out “impressions” without knowing the FACTS.
Sounds like Schwartz “pigeon shit” talk all over again, except Schwartz bought one of those FT domains you’re making fun of, and that incredible sale was covered on this blog. Yeah, I know, you won’t address that. Sidestep the hard points I make for ridiculous rhetoric.
As far as my sites being sabotaged prior to the original date for the Future Trend Domain Auction™, that’s ON RECORD, you idiot. I never announced it, I didn’t choose to let the world know that I had law enforcement and my own programmers researching who the attacker was. Trust me, we found the person and who they were connected to, just like those who know who were connected to the “Chef Patrick” scandal. I can’t comment further about this.
And YOU selling a five figure domain — you don’t even have an identity, because you’re still a pussy, so I don’t believe you’ve ever sold a domain for five figures. Neither does anyone else reading this because you’re too SCARED to reveal who you are. As usual… instead of being a “pigeon shit” domainer, you’re a chicken sh*t blog troller.
Ghost, the final word to you is: you don’t know how many friends I have in this industry, or how many of the biggest of the best believe in what I do, and who I communicate with regularly. You’re a noobie with a chip on your shoulder. Nuff said.

There is either someone else named Elliot posting on Mike’s blog or someone is trying to start trouble by using my name. I would hope the former but wouldn’t be surprised by the later.
Whatever the case, Mike can confirm that the other comment wasn’t from me since he has the IPs.

Steve-O, I have no interest in engaging someone who essentially develops a reality of their own, then choose to live in it in spire of the facts (or, at least with very little interest in pursuing the facts)
You stated 4 facts in that post that were completely wrong, but again, like I said. I couldn’t care less about engaging blowhard idiots in wars of words, especially when the counter party has shown the almost infinite capacity for self-delusion as you have. No matter what I might say, you’ll simply develop your own reality and believe that instead.
Just to be clear, there’s nothing wrong with getting in front of trends, such as what Rick Schwartz did here, but that isn’t the same thing as what you promote with your ‘FT Domain Method’, nor is it reflected in the types of domains you own or bring to auction.
Anyway, let me know when you finally accept your ideas are failed, or if you just believe the infinite nature of ‘the future’ will correct any mistakes you made.

Can’t believe I hand reg’d, BestSmartTVs.com. Another boatload of work, except, I’m already writing about smart tvs, so I might as well create a site about them.
iDomainDude says
Personally, I believe the purchase of smartglasses.com was a great buy.
Keep in mind, one of the main technologies that will make smart glasses and all other gadgets like them possible is [ HUD ] Heads Up Displays.
Much like GPS, HUD technology was first developed for military use, then eventually crossed over to consumer product integration.
HUD is used in Aircraft, Automobile, Marine, motorcycle helmets, ski goggles, video gaming, mobile apps, and now, wearable eye glasses.
I love it.
I cant wait to see how well these new HUD devices actually integrate into our daily lives. I know I’m excited about trying them out later this year.
Anyway-
Just in case consumers decide its easier and more productive to interact with the web via a wearable or mounted HUD, I picked up about 25 HUD domains last month, right after watching googles HUD “project glass” video.
It seems to me that the best possible domain play related to “wearable” and “mounted” smart devices is going after the terms that are related to the underlying technology and consumer services that makes these products possible and useful in the first place.
Current popular consumer related tech terms and acronym examples:
GPS, WIFI, HD, HDMI, DVD, CD, DVR, CLOUD, VCR, etc.
I’m thinking “HUD” will become the next common everyday consumer product related acronym by the end of this year, and will follow in the footsteps of most of the other well known tech acronyms that became common place in the past.
Has anyone else picked up any HUD domains yet?

Why are you telling us this? It’s a pigeon shit domain. Rick should find another hobby. He SUCKs at domaining.

@Ghost
I’m trying to be professional here… and I admit your posts are so poorly written and it’s obvious you’re losing your grip on what’s being said here, and the fact your tiny brain doesn’t understand that FINDING generic domains that will be huge in the future, will be valuable IF you find the right domain.
Keep trying to attack me, but I promise you Rick won’t do you any favors for it. If you knew what I know about “that”, you’d be scared. You already are showing everyone you are “scared”, because you still don’t identify yourself. Think about that, as a BUSINESSMAN/WOMAN, you want to attack me with false accusations, take money away from my family by trying to belittle my business (I wouldn’t do that to you, but I can’t because you are curled up in the fetal position, in a dark room, forcing yourself to crawl to your keyboard and post here, even by calling yourself “ghost”.
It’s a stipulated fact among all professional domainers that when you publicly pursue a continuing flame thread using a name that doesn’t identify you, that everything you say is worthless, untrue, and the sign of a weak little entity. Little bitty “ghost” trying to say something astounding. Teeny weeny ghost hiding and sweating it out that I might just know how to find out who you are… if I cared.
BTW: Since you say I have no real connection with the powerful domain players and I’m in my own “reality”, why did Elliot Silver, probably one of the most appreciated bloggers in this business, made his comment on the other “Elliot” who “supports” what you say about me.
I guess this conversation is over because I can’t logically “reach” someone like you who I already shot down in flames, and is now burning like a bonfire before an SEC college football game.
Really bro, I can’t talk to a crispy carcass, so… be a nice little ghost and ride your scooter into oblivion. You can have the last comment, because I’m not responding. You’re already “dead”.
(yes folks, I did indulge my desire to destroy an “anonymous” idiot who I know is connected to the DK). I apologize for taking up your time with this moron.
Sorry Embee… maybe you can chalk it up to needed drama for a growing comment section.

@Feeling Froggy,
I’m not going to waste time bashing the choices you’ve made regarding past domain purchases, but I have made the following observation: You appear (at least to me) to have created a reality for yourself to make you feel good, smart, and secure in the domains you’ve registered – it’s like you live in your own little world.
I’ve looked at your domains – they are 90% absolutely worthless. The other 10% has some value, but considering the time you’ve likely spent compiling that list of domains, you are probably working for something like 10 cents per hour – even Chinese sweatshop workers make more than this. My advice to you is, quit “domaining”, get a job, and never look back.
Good luck, my friend.
Feeling Froggy In The 'Bu says
@Oren,
You’re another Schwartz noobie? Have you looked at my Linkedin account?
Who ARE you? I’ve made more money than you in one year in domaining than you’ve made in the few months you’ve been involved.
It’s amazing how many “haters” there are regarding the focus of Future Trend Domains. However, that just shows you’ve got none, and we’ve got more. You don’t KNOW the domains I own. You didn’t mention them, you didn’t review them, you didn’t make educated comments about them. You just did a lame rhetorical commentary cuz you don’t like me for some reason. I’ve never said anything against you. Ever. You don’t know the domains I own in the FT realm, so you have nothing to say about them. If you do, mention which domains you’re “dogging”, and maybe Embee will allow a commentary to push forward, or he’ll start a new blog about it.
I think making comments from the influence or intimacy of the “Florida Circle Of Domain Pals” is a losing proposition for anyone who thinks this is where domain investing lies. Everyone in Florida in this business KISSES each other’s asses. Prove me wrong. (Oh, I forgot, Moniker vs Schwartz — but we all know in the business how Schwartz did his business on Chef Patrick – and be very aware that NOBODY will comment on that. Fear is strong in Florida. “Oh my god, I need these guys to be successful!”) NOT.
Just realize this: The domain industry does exist successfully out of the Florida “goodfellas” area of influence.
Oren says
@Feeling Froggy,
“You’re another Schwartz noobie? Have you looked at my Linkedin account?”
Answer: No, and No.
“It’s amazing how many “haters” there are regarding the focus of Future Trend Domains.”
Answer: “Future Trend Domains” is something you’ve created. It’s not real, except to you – this is why your auction failed.
The rest of what you typed was just plain odd. Are you capable of commenting on this blog without four to six paragraphs and 1,000 words? I feel sorry for people like you – perhaps you need to step outside and get some sunlight and fresh air.
Good luck, friend.
The Ghost says
Oren, don’t waste your time.
The man does an impeccable job defining himself with every lunatic post he makes.
If there’s one thing he’s consistently shown, it’s that he isn’t very good at grasping reality and most definitely lives in a fantasy world of his own creation. No sense wasting time with people like this. You confront them with fact, they counter with their own elaborate fantasies. You can always tell the type by the presence of stuff like this…
“…you’re so… ummmmm…. like a little girl who stole candy and blamed it on her little brother.”
“…you are curled up in the fetal position, in a dark room, forcing yourself to crawl to your keyboard and post here.”
“I guess this conversation is over because I can’t logically “reach” someone like you who I already shot down in flames, and is now burning like a bonfire before an SEC college football game. ”
Creating their own elaborate reality to fall back on when the facts get too painful is very important to people like him. And LOL at his being so deluded, he believes there are ‘conspiracies’ against him. The man is a total zero factor in the domain game. Talk about a delusional view of his own self importance!
Oren says
@Ghost,
I don’t really care for you either – as a matter of fact, I classify you in the same way as “Feeling Froggy”…just a couple of wannabe’s.
Elliot Silver says
“why did Elliot Silver, probably one of the most appreciated bloggers in this business, made his comment on the other “Elliot” who “supports” what you say about me.”
I don’t know about the appreciated part, but thanks. I made my comment because I want to avoid any confusion with respect to someone else posting as “Elliot” on this blog. I stand by what I post here and elsewhere, but I don’t want people to assume someone else’s comments are mine just because they use Elliot as their handle.

That may be true. Or maybe it isn’t.
Either way, my involvement in this conversation has run its course.

@Louise,
BestSmartTVs.com, like most of the domains you register, is probably not worth the registration fee.

Domainers crack me up. “ernstein” lol classic.
To the future trend guy, its hard enough selling current trend at auctions so regardless of what happened and what didn’t it was going to be a tuff sell. I respect your effort though, you don’t shot you don’t score.
