According to a press release this morning the domain name Co.Com has been put up for sale.
The domain that is owned by Paul Goldstone is being co-brokered by DomainAdvisors and SellDomains.com.
The domain name received 4.5 million unique visitors and 14 million page views in 2011.
Tessa Holcomb, Founder & CEO of DomainAdvisors. is quoted as saying:
“There are few names that command a multi seven-figure price tag and CO.com is one of the top domains in this small segment of the market. It’s not often that a domain name of this caliber becomes available for sale, and we are honored and excited to be representing Mr. Goldstone in this sale.”

I believe the only extensions (that are used in the U.S.) you can even get two-character domains in are .com, .net, and .tv (just looked on dynadot).
Coco says
Good luck. You are going to need it unless of course there is a decimal somewhere in that multi seven figure number. No way this name pulls a privatejet like price tag
G Ariyas says
Nice domain indeed. All the typo traffic from .co domains must be going to this domain.

finally the .co domains registry could buy its .com π
Mike says
Anyone noticed how .co domains are starting to drop like crazy.
I’m very surprised at the insanely low quality of .co domains so many people registered and are letting go. I would not take many of them for free, even if they were .com domains with those keywords.

You have a lot of experience in big deals so I would like to put this to you:
Co.Com “has been put up for sale” means that it was always up for sale and now has someone dedicated to selling it however, if we look at the value of the domain, which the owner would have known, in all probability the best end users of this domain would have been contacted already in the past. This press release is more akin to whacking the bushes to see if any snakes come out?
The above isnt a statement, its my uneducated perception of the situation. I would really love to hear your take on this.
CocoNuts says
a veiled attempt to market it to the owners of dot co no doubt
Duane says
Co.Com its not gold, its platinum. First class, top of the shelf, never get better domain.
A garantee 7 figure name.
Paul is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and I whish him all the best on this sale.

Is there not a story unrelated to

Every fricken domain related story these days circles back to
the mother load.

In your mind, apparently not.
Josh says
Great name, based on other LL end users sales we know of it has to be near (very high 6 figures) if not more than 7 figures but multi 7…hhhmmm ya never know!
I have a little experience as I have sold 4 LL .com myself.

@ Robert
“Is there not a story unrelated to .Co these days.”
You just turn ever thread into a .CO discussion with your ridiculous hyperbole, no matter what the topic is.
Even this thread is a about a .COM, not a .CO

What about the three character restriction that seems apparent these days?
Such a great domain name.. Best hopes for everyone involved with the sale!
Robert Clinee says
The .CO domain has become one of the most sucessful new domain extensions in the world since it was launched in the summer of 2010 β and the number of registrations keeps growing! Itβs so close to the .COM and .CO.UK β but shorter and easier to remember.
but shorter and easier to remember.
but shorter and easier to remember.
but shorter and easier to remember.
this is the key !
JamesD says
@Robert Cline – “but shorter and easier to remember.

but shorter and easier to remember.”
NOT easier to remember – fact is o.co turned out to be very difficult for a great many people to remember despite mega millions promoting it. Each day the global population is bombarded with .com – .co is a drop in the ocean. One drop won’t polute the seas.
There are two ways .co could overtake .com as you keep preaching it will;
1. More .co domains get registered and used than .com = never going to happen.
2. Google, Ebay, and the whole of the top 10,000 global websites drop their .coms and ony use .co = never going to happen.
RC, you’re amusing…but even you know this is never going to happen, and so does everyone you’re trying to preach to. It’s great if you’re making the sales you say – I’m genuinely happy for you – but it’s a niche thats working for you; it won’t necessarily work for others the same. Milk it for all its worth, and then reinvest in the future… .COMs
Forgetfull says
@ Robert Cline: “short and easier to remember”
Robert did you read the article posted on Rick Schvartz’ blog. Overstock claims that over 61% of the traffic destined to o.co went to o.com.
That sir is not leakage, that is a gapping hole. Lost traffic = lost revenues
If and when you decide to develop your .co names you will inadvertantly be making the owner of the corresponding .com domain names money. Not a big deal to you perhaps and one of the positives may be that you will finally start to get the praise and respect of certain .com owners LOL
Get cracking and start developing.
building on .co is akin to building in New Orleans
Randy L Pendleton says
There is always talk of something becoming the ‘new .com.’ It is nothing new. Fantasy and zealots (and idiots) give the impression that other extensions are catching to/will ultimately overtake .com. That belief’s been arounmd for a looooooooong time. Will you people pretty please just SHUT UP? What extension overtook .com in the year 1999? or 2003? or 2011? Answer: NONE. .com is too established to be taken down. ven if you wanted to argue that, then try to argue this (you’ll fail but we might get a kick outta seeing you flail around like a limbless man): Many .co’s had fallen victim to intelligence (ppl realizing they aren’t the 2nd coming of Christ & letting them drop). .mobi was HUGE… at a time. And we know where it sits right now. I’m a staff member of namepros.com & I see many owners of the pricey .xxx selling their worthless domains for peanuts, trying to recover $5-10 of their reg fee. I don’t care if some succeeds at an extension: That means 100% NOTHING in regards to the ‘new .com’ ever seeing light. Pretty much all extensions these days are registered from neophilia & once the honeymoon ends, the owners sell cheap or they let their garbage expire. .mobi will NEVER be the new .com. .biz & .info, the same. And yes, .CO WILL NEVER BECOME THE NEW .COM, NO MATTER HOW MUCH FAITH YOU HAVE IN IT! It’s already dropping like a weak heart, jut as many domains do. But AT THE LEAST, ppl who own crappy .com’s have a higher tendency of renewing them. .co is .com, NOT .com. Live with it. You have no other option.
Randy L Pendleton says
(Last line should be “.co is .co.” Stupid typo.)
Robert Clineee says
Hard to teach old dogs new tricks.
think of it this way .com is microsoft
.Co is facebook 5 years ago.
In 5 years .Co is going to be 10x .com
embrace .Co, the new order of things.
and now go register yourself some .Co
Randy L Pendleton says
Ummm… Facebook is a fad, kid. eCircles was big. Then Myspace got big. Then Facebook. ppl are pretty ignorant: we follow any god that seems worth following at a time. Once a cooler or more prominent god rears its head, we follow. According to your analogy, .co is a fad that people will embrace and then leave forsaken, lost to neophilia. Sorry, Robert, but you’re not making any sense other than to yourself. Now, DON’T register .co. Don’t be an idiot. Come on, are you so stupid to believe a ccTLD is gonna overtake the .com?! HA!
John McCormac says
I’m amazed that Robert Cline is still promoting .co ccTLD as a .com killer. Millions of .com domains are registered each month. The big driver for any successful TLD is development. Without development, the resale values of a domain in that TLD are low. Perhaps as a service to .co, Robert could develop some of his .co domains. The .com is the Global standard and that’s why people use it. Trying to push it in the UK is fine but .uk ccTLD will go over 10 million domains in the next few weeks and over 9 million of those will be .co.uk domains. As for .com, it has over 100 million domains whereas .co has, apparently, around 1 million. The second anniversary of the landrush is always the one to watch with any newly launched TLD. That’s when a lot of the domainers with larger portfolios make the hold’em or fold’em decision.
Randy L Pendleton says
Great points, John. It’s safe to say Robert is a moron. I don’t like singling ppl out like that but he truly seems like the most brain-damaged “professional” domainer I’ve ever heard from. But if he wants to think .co will EVER be on par with the .com, let ’em. I don’t care if he loses his life savings on .co. If he ever does, it’ll be his own damn fault.
