According to Cnet.com “Google is reportedly getting ready to take on Dropbox with its own cloud-based storage service”.
“The service called Drive”….will allow users to upload photos, documents, and videos to Google servers for sharing with others and later retrieval””
Drive, which is expected to launch in the coming months, will be free for most consumers and business, with a premium service offered for those who want to store a large amount of files, the paper reported.

You’d think they would have grabbed it, but bottom line reality is Google doesn’t need to own drive.com to make Drive successful.

Google taking on Dropbox — but who will be the next cyberlocker service taken on by DOJ in a Mega-style bust? All these services are hated by Hollywood because the more useful they are the more they can facilitate infringement.
ICE didn’t stop at its first domain seizure, so why would DOJ stop at one prosecution?
John @ OnlineBackupDeals.com says
Google tends to use subdomains for their products, so imagine they would do the same thing here. Course I could be wrong.
They would actually have to launch the thing before it matters.
Sam says
The owner of Drive owns some other really top names like horoscopes.com crosswords.com and others.
I believe he fought off a lawsuit for the domain name Drive.com from an insurance or financial services company back in the day.
I tried to contact him for years, to no avail.
