Busta Rhymes Becomes Latest Celeb To Let His Domain Name Expire As BustaRhymes.com Drops Today

December 21, 2011 by Michael Berkens

A few months ago we wrote how a famous athlete, Michael Vick, had just allowed his two domain names to expire and drop.

Today another Celeb’s domain name is facing deletion as BustaRhymes.com has expired and is deleting today.

The domain name BustaRhymes.com has been registered to:

Flip Mode Licensing, LLC

c/o Pryor Cashman LLP of  New York, NY

Also listed on the whois record was one Busta Rhymes (brose@pryorcashman.com).

The domain was originally registered in 2001.

According to Alexa the domain gets some good traffic as it has a Ranking of 2.1 Million

Busta has sold millions of songs and been nominated for numerous Grammy and MTV Music awards.

According to Screenshots.com the domain served as the official site of the hip-hop star.

Its pretty amazing that the domain which seems to be under a management company’s name, with a New York lawyer as a contact wound up expiring and is being deleted today.

After we wrote the story about MichaelVick.com and MikeVick.com dropping, SnapNames.com picked up the domain on the drop and wound up cancelling the auction and giving the domain to the celebrity.

We will see what happens here to Mr. Busta Rhymes domain name.

    Busta did go with a different recording studio, so maybe that had something to do with it. He’s now with Young Money and is no longer with Flip Mode, which is a HUGE mistake. Young Money will be broke shortly with all the spending they do and will probably be like Master P and his No Limit Records.

    Let’s hope the domain ends up in the celebrity’s hands, so, at least this time, domain investors will be spared from being called cybersquatters.

    @Prosper – Young Money will continue to develop, Lil’ Wayne has his head switched on, but who is Busta?

    Everybody always says things like “New York Lawyer” like they are some sort of super lawyers. I’m sure New York has plenty of amazing lawyers, but what they have no crappy lawyers?

    probably that domain hasn’t a great value for him

    The domain has been caught. I’m afraid it was a squatter.

    @Joe name was caught by namejet and not a squatter, since namejet is a drop catching service

  8. Joe says

    @Prosper

    OK, but who bid on it? Squatters can use drop catching services too.

    Guys

    The domain was caught by NameJet.com and is in an auction with 48 people that ends December 24.

    I’m in the auction to monitor it and will let you know who one and what the top bid was

    @MHB

    How many people backordered the name?

  11. Michael H. Berkens says

    December 23, 2011 at 11:01 am

    Joe

    That would be the 48 number above, those in the auction

  12. Joe says

    December 23, 2011 at 12:23 pm

    @MHB

    Sorry, I hadn’t seen it. 48 is a pretty high number of bidders, I doubt the majority of them are people acting in good faith who are willing to hand over the domain to its rightful owner.

    Joe

    I wouldn’t expect anyone to bid on a domain in a competitive auction to pay good money for it just to turn it over.

    After I wrote the MikeVick.com story and they got the domain from Snap you think there representative would have had the common courtesy to at least reach out to me to say thanks,

    got nothing from them, not a word.

    So here if the management team was smart or the celeb they would have reached out to and I could have bid the on the domain for them for their benefit but again nothing

    And if it happened to owenfrager.com would anyone just give it back to me? Why should celebrities be special?

    Owen

    There is a long line of UDRP decision on famous people.

    Famous people can get common law trademark right to their domain.

    With your blog and visitor count you might win a UDRP on your domain as well,
