We have written pretty frequently about ICM’s launching of an all out ad campaign for the .XXX extension, with all Advertising leading back to Buy.XXX.
You can read some stories on Buy.xxx here, here and here.
So for the 1st time we can tell you EXACTLY how much traffic Buy.xxx is bleeding over to BuyXXX.com
How do we know?
We own the domain name BuyXXX.com.
Yesterday we logged in over 2,000 visitors to BuyXXX.com.
Since the advertising campaign started on November 23rd BuyXXX.com has received over 25,000 visitors and traffic is increasing daily.
Actually this past weekend the domain got over 5,500 visitors.
Based off of ICM numbers,. the traffic they are losing to Buyxxx.com is quite insignificant to what’s they are getting to Buy.xxx, but still we are still thankful.
Before the ICM ad campaign the domain had no traffic whatsoever.
According to Compete.com we aren’t the only one’s benefiting from some extra traffic courtesy of .XXX
The big winner is of course XXX.com which saw its traffic basically double from last November (the extension wasn’t approved until March 2011 and didn’t officially launch until December).
According to Compete last November the site did only 77K visitors and last month hit just short of 150K visitors (we believe both numbers to be woefully short of actual numbers)
So maybe the lesson here is even if you don’t invest in the new gTLD’s, that doesn’t mean you can’t make money off of their success.
Josh says
Not sure how I feel about this Michael…
At any rate it is traffic that will vanish along with the advertising, nothing new.
You’ll be left with what was a good misspell for a time and no real value in and of itself.

Michael H. Berkens says
Josh
You don’t have to feel anyway about it, the stats are the stats
I owned the domain a lot time before ICM chose to use buy.xxx in all their ads.
So the domain is not a typo or a mis-spell.
Gnanes says
They would be stupid if they try to file a UDRP against you. Value of .com domains keeps going up when other extensions get developed.
Alan says
I’ll bet 99% of it comes from clicking on one of their ads, I just clicked an ICM ad and it was
forwarded to buy.xxx…………………………………
domain says
Interesting mike. And icm never even realized this probably or wanted buy your name or lease agreement.
So lesson learned was there is definitely leakage. 2. Read ricks blog and .com is king for a reason. Also reminds us a lot of .co hype and leakage point.
Can there money be made. Sure. But this proves again .com works. .com is the best.
Like your last paragraph mike. Agree.
domain says
Udrp is non sense and mike brought a lot of business to .xxx and promote extension.
.xxx says
Imagine if this was being forwarded mike?
How many new buyers in .xxx
Out of 25k , how much traffic would that convert into buying a .xxx domain name?
Or other buyer would be manwin for name.
Come on icm wake up and realize this traffic.
Lease name from mike before manwin realizes the value of this name. LOL. Manwin is so clueless and when it comes to domains.
FX says
why are wasting the traffic by parking it instead of selling domains ?
FX says
not to mention non targeted results
Jp says
It’s a shame you can’t talk with them about affiliate referrals without getting a udrp or sued (regardless of whether u are right or not u can still get the udrp). Why does nobody consider some mutual benefit where everybody wins before making a fight
Doe Ray Me says
Another in a long line of self serving posts. Good luck with the sale.
Michael H. Berkens says
What Sale?
FX says
this is not a udrp situation.
This should have been about making lemonade from your lemons, thats all.
Lost opportunity IMO .
domain guy says
what is important is the % of lost traffic…what is it? 1-2% of the total?thats really insignficant..and what occurs is after the period of initial interest confusion the searcher bouches off your site and then googles onto the site they want..ie buy.xxx
Mark says
Any idea regarding value….I was surprised that neither of these
were picked up during pre-registration
strike.xxx Strike3.XXX
Michael H. Berkens says
Mark
What relationship do these terms have to adult?
Mark says
naked baseball of course…3 strikes and your out!!!
Kate says
“So maybe the lesson here is even if you don’t invest in the new gTLD’s, that doesn’t mean you can’t make money off of their success.”
Ahah. Nice quote.
Now that is a bonus if the traffic converts somehow.
James says
@Mark – “Any idea regarding value….I was surprised that neither of these
were picked up during pre-registration
strike.xxx Strike3.XXX”
There are hundreds of much better names available at reg fee – 6 figure exact search volume and could only be adult in nature.
Mark says
yes, maybe,…but i’m envisioning someone wanting to start up a fantasy baseball league. What better name? These two domains are my only investment in the .XXX world so I’ve go a lot at stake here. 🙂
LOL@Mark says
strike.xxx and strike3.xxx…
/facepalm
Jakal says
So now what? I have over 20 .xxx’s and some are pretty good… Are Adult companies really looking for these or is it yet another TLD scam?
Kate says
Jakal,
I think that if there are adult buyers for .xxx they could have tried to register the domains before you did.
Just a thought.
idiot says
if you think they are “pretty good” then who cares if adult companies are looking for them? it’s not a scam. you got some “pretty good” names. you should congratulate yourself. have a cigar.
wanna buy a pet rock? i got some pretty good ones to sell.
Dave says
Have there been any reported .xxx sales? I havent sold any lol.
