As an outsider (UK), just curious… why would DHS seize these domains? Are they or have been linked to terrorism or national security?
Dan says
Hi,
@ KevD
“ICE” & “HLS” are operating a program “Operation In Our Sites”.
Their ‘Mandate’ & Priories under this program are quite CLEAR:
Home Land Security (terrorism) ~ Economic Espionage ~ LARGE Scale Product Piracy & Copyright Infringement ~ Large scale ‘Child Porn”.
Seems, they are just picking the ‘low hanging’ fruit…for Hollywood.
They are hardly following what it is they are supposed to be doing…they are mostly just taking down sites, Movie , Music and file-sharing websites…for the Hollywood, and our Music Industry.
They are doing it under this law, passed in 2008:
Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PRO-IP_Act
NOT,
To be confused with the: “Protect IP Act 2011” ~ That they are now trying to pass, to give them EXTREME power’s…all with the major backing coming from Hollywood & the Music industries.
I have not seen one site, of “Islamic Jihad Terrorist website” taking down, with a banner saying it was taking down for the security of the United States.
As: Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.)” said in a Senate hearing on this in May 2011, after consulting may ‘TM’ & Copyright experts in Silicon Valley in Ca, USA…
They told her what “ICE & HLS” has done so far is just nothing but “Chicken S%*&$”
Best,
Dan
BTW: TorrentFreak .com in the “UK” does about the best job of covering all this, day in day out…better than everyone.

You can see all the domains that have been seized to date by doing a simple Reverse IP lookup – for example: http://viewdns.info/reverseip/?host=74.81.170.110

If you’re worried that the US Dept of Homeland Security is not going after the real bad guys, maybe you should consider moving to Australia and buying my home?
However, please note, Australia does not have a ‘Dept of Homeland Security’ to protect us from sites such as 007disk.net, so move to Australia, and buy my home at your own peril!
Magoogle says
I understand the bigger point here is NOT that the websites needed taken down
But the fact that we have a normal civil and criminal court system to deal with such things and this and does not quantify Homeland Security purpose.
It does not make me feel confident that they are protecting me from biological/chemical weapons while they are out enforcing copyright laws while we are paying for other government entities to do just that.
They must have more money and time than I thought ???

The economic situation IS a matter of security!

should we reg any domains now ? in this century, big bosses can seizure all names they like/or dont like …justice, freedom ..all are bsht
Muli says
@ KevD
This websites were non-legit resalers or fraud websites that didn`t deliver what promised, therefor seized by DHS.
Dan says
@AustraliaHouses
There is NO ‘due process’
So, let me know how it turns out for you when one of your ‘parking pages’ on one of your domains…. has an advertisement from a site selling ‘knockoffs’, or any other pirated products. And ‘ICE / ‘HLS’ seizes your domain along with the advertisers…just because your site was ‘linked’ to their site.
Now your facing a max of 5 years in jail and a 250K fine, and have to spend $50k-100K defending yourself, or take a plea deal.
Best,
Dan
BTW: Our ICE & HLS can seize your domain/website even though you are in Australia…so you see, you really do have “HLS” from the US…looking out for you…mate 🙂

Hi,
Here is the Whole Deal on this:
Feds Seize Domain Names of Korean Movie Portals
http://torrentfreak.com/feds-seize-domains-of-korean-movie-portals-111204/
” This weekend’s actions are the first to target a range of sites that are NOT directed at the US public. For this purpose the seizure banners, which replace the site’s original content, are now updated to include a message in the Korean language. ”
