nice list, but not a lot top domain.

It seems the biggest problem with auctions continues to be so many sellers are out of touch with setting marketable reserves.

I’m wondering how well this auction has been promoted.

Has anyone received a single email during the course of this auction, detailing
    the names on the list?

I hope Moniker has some buyers lined up – maybe for last minute bidding.
So far, it’s not a positive result.

Another problem is there are way tooooo many auctions.

I have gotten some emails on the auction including one yesterday

Not sure how much they have reached out to the non-domainer community

Looks like this is the last special auction for SnapNames this year

  7. Aron says

    Mike,

hmm. Maybe they don’t email people with names in the auction 😉

    We’ll see how it goes.
I’m expecting to see a lot of last minute bids.

Why is a bid that is $1 under the reserve price considered legitimate? Aren’t 95% of those just shill bids?

  10. Keepin it Real says

    September 20, 2011 at 1:24 pm

More like $11,566 in bids! Who cares what the bid is if the reserve is not met. Can’t spend that money!

  11. John Mauriello says

    September 20, 2011 at 1:36 pm

All bids are monitored legitimate bids from legitimate buyers and legally binding. Any seller can choose to reduce the reserve and accept the current high bid as you may recall was done for Slots.com and more recently Social.com ……although it happens frequently on much lower profile names.

  12. MHB says

    September 20, 2011 at 1:39 pm

    Aaron

If all reserve prices are in ranges how do you know what $1 under it would be

Take Hardcore.com the range is $100K-$250K

We know there is a bid of $125K and reserve hasn’t been hit so it would be anything from $125,001-$250,000 how can you bid $1 under the reserve?

  13. Tony says

    September 20, 2011 at 3:28 pm

The only good deal in that auction was Brassieres.com and it sold for $3,112 to ‘magicman’.

  14. aaron wall says

    September 20, 2011 at 5:29 pm

I saw a lot of bids that were exactly 25k with reserve ranges starting at 25,001 … that is what I was highlighting.

In a future auction it will have a 15k reserve and the owner will highlight that it had already had a 25k bid in the past 😀

I also find the “all bids are legitimate” humorous coming from a company that is a subsidiary of the company that owns SnapNames…halverez wasn’t legitimate when he bid in my auctions. I know times are different, yada yada … but I have had similar experiences on Afternic & Sedo & GoDaddy auctions in the years past, where someone bid to the moon at the last second & didn’t buy, or someone was selling something that they allegedly didn’t own.

  15. aaron wall says

    September 20, 2011 at 5:30 pm

Also, … what is the point of publishing a reserve “range” if the owner can then arbitrarily adjust the reserve after the fact? It feels a bit like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbu0PVOUT3o

  16. John Mauriello says

    September 21, 2011 at 10:11 am

Aaron: All bids are monitored. The Halvarez situation was unfortunate but it was a long time ago, was prior to Moniker ‘s use of the Snapnames systems for auctions, and Halvarez never purchased a name at a moniker auction.

I’m not sure who are suggesting would benefit if were to stop allowing sellers to lower the reserves to accept a current bid ?? I have never had a seller or buyer complain about being able to buy a domain or sell a domain when they are agree on a price this way. You seem to have all the answers, maybe you can explain.

.There are many sales that will be completed this week and in weeks to follow because the seller agreed to accept the buyers auction bid after the auction or the buyer increased the bid after the auction. Its simply a marketplace dynamic, and moniker-snapnames are just serving as the broker to assist in these transactions.
