the sale of bedbugs.org for $21,400 (maybe, for a non profit organization that wants to save the bedbugs from extinction) has cancelled all doubts about the value of the .org domains 🙂

.org is popular.
Steve Jones says
I believe .org is and has been the most underrated extension for years. Many people still think of it as #3 and behind .net, which it still is in registrations, but Quantcast for instance shows far more .org than .net in its top 2 million sites (based on US data) and in other areas as well, it is ultimately more common to see than .net. Not EVERY kind of domain works with .org but many domains fit .org so well that their value becomes much more than a tiny fraction of the .com.

Ironic, .ORG is mostly responsible for keeping new TLD Competition OUT (away from their cash cows) yet they claim they protect the Open and Transparent Internet for anyone to use
maybe they do not intend for others to become insiders like them ?
