There are 70 domains currently listed for the Live DomainFest auction from Barcelona which will be held on June 8th at 12pm EST.
Remote bidding will be available at Snapnames.com, and pre-bidding is currently opened.
We have went through the list of domain names in the auction and here are our thoughts.
As of time of publication we should note that 4 domain names have bids and have met reserve:
gado.com
seoagencies.com
houses.co.uk
semexpert.com
We should also note that none of the domains in the auction are owned by us and
I think one of the domain names in the auction, best describe the auction:
MuchoDinero.com (reserve $10k-$25K)
There are some killer domains at some big prices but they maybe well worth it and I wouldn’t be surprised to see any of the below domain sell.
Having said that here are our picks:
First our picks from the $100K+ domains:
Data.com ($1M-$5M) we know that Datacenters.com recently sold for $350K, so $1M would seem to be a bargain for this one, but the reserve could be closer to $5M then to $1M, its a pretty wide range $1M-$5M, but its a killer name.
The Domain has a Google Page rank of 6.
Social.com ($5M+) if the online world can be described in one word right now “social” might be it.
According to Compete.com, the domain has gotten monthly traffic in the last year ranging from a high of 57,000 visitors a month (a year ago) to 7,500.
Alexa.com ranks this domain in the top 250K of all sites.
This domain has gotten some mainstream press this last week here, and here, and wouldn’t be surprised to see it sell north of $5M.
Twitrbackgrounds.com ($100K-$250K) Of course this is not just a domain but a site, one which gets quite a bit of traffic.
According to Compete.com this site generated between 38,000-98,000 visitors a month over the last year.
The site has an Alexa ranking of 35,000.
The site also has a Google Page Rank of 6.
CheckCashing.com, huge high paying topic. The site has traffic between 4K-10K in the past year according to Compete. There are a ton of Check Cashing brick and mortar stores around the US and I bet there are several with 10 miles of where ever you live.
This is a category killer.
Skills.com ($100k-$250K) is another nice one word .com which has some traffic and would be a good domain for a jobs or education site.
For those with a smaller budget these domains look most interesting:
BodySculpting.com ($5K-$10K) might just be the best buy in the auction. Its a huge cosmetic surgery procedure and the cost of one procedure is probably more than the reserve price.
DuffelBag.com ($5K-$10K) nice name for luggage site or web 2.0 domain.
FreeHostingPlan.com ($1K-$2,500) seems like a no-brainer at this price point. We wrote a post on the flip of the domain name WebsiteHosting.com just a couple of days ago.
NicotinePatches.com ($5K-$10K) nice product name
TireStores.com ($5K-$10K) there are thousands of these in the US alone and some huge chains.
HardAbs.com ($1K-$2,500) one of those fitness related terms and one of the things people try to get by going to the gym. Nice name for a informerical, how many of these type of products have you seen advertised?
SpamFilters.com ($10K-$25K) Huge category and a cheap price especially for any company which sells such a product.
So those are my picks.
In all if one of the big domains pop, the auction and the industry is going to get huge coverage so lets hope.
Finally I have an observation on the domain name Fares.com ($750K-$1M).
Oversee which is the owner and operator of DomainFest.com, own the site LowFares.com which is one of its major development projects.
Personally I think Fares.com its a nice name but I have to note that the owner of the auction owns LowFares.com and doesn’t want to pick up Fares.com, instead listing it for sale, I have to wonder if the domain name is as valuable as the reserve price.
Those are my thoughts.
You can continue to vote for your favorite (up to 3 at one time) on our poll on the right and we will close it on Wednesday Morning before the auction.

no doubt, that, Social.com and Data.com are the best of the list (and the two domains I voted in the poll)

I agree that BodySculpting seems like the best pick-up in the auction. But that is just an illusion IMO. The domain has a low reserve and with some intense bidding might easily pass other comparables out there that might not sell because of such high reserves.

I think there are better value domains in the non-live auction list.

We will publish something on the extended list next weekend

Checks cashed or phased out, might sell in Prague

Yeah Mike. I would have to agree that bodysculpting.com is the best value by far. I see this name with many bids at the end.

Didn’t I read somewhere he was trying to sell social for 50K but not takers?
Oh well……….another one that misses the duck
so is the story of cloud.
Names that don’t make sense 10yrs ago are making sense now.
So what next for 10yrs?

Social.com is worth $10 million or more.
James Barre says
Social.com is not worth $10m or even $5m, it’s just overhyped
So you expect someone to pay $10m, build something and then sell it? And the buyer of that new company will be buying Social.com because of the company and not the domain.
So the question is how much mark-up can be generated from using the domain Social.com
Not much
Soc.TV says
I could see LivingSocial.com buying Social.com, bidding against 5+ Sillicon Valley start-ups…watch – $10 million+

could Social.com be bought by Facebook?
The Social-TV-Network says
People here don’t get it – social.com is arguable the most valuable domain to be offered up for sale since the sale of insurance.com. I predict there will be MANY big-money bidders on this one and the sales price will be north of $10 million.

Nobody is going to spend $5M on social.com
It’s not a consumer brand website, nobody is going to socialize on social.com. Best use is for a company providing services to other businesses in social media.

LOL @ the dreamers living vicariously thru the owner
If ‘they’ had wanted social.com, it would have happened already ny now
Oh wait – that’s because ‘they’ were waiting for this very auction… NOT
If owner had even received $1 M for it he would have sold already
Guy’s been trying to flog it for the past 5 yrs

I cant believe HorseRacing.com was not even mentioned, That is my favourite domain here by far, an easy development with multiple $$$ potential with advertising and affiliate links to Bookmakers services etc. Is it worth 5 million?, maybe not but id take it any day over social.

HorseRacing.com is my favorite pick and a real value under the 3 m range. Slots.com sold for ?5m under the same business model. Horse racing is sport in addition to the gaming aspects. I would think that it would offer a greater appeal since winning horses can be verified vs. the potential for curruption in digitized and traditional slots. Huge growth potential and populairty is on the rise.
