As reported by Kevin Murphy earlier today the domain name BX.com is up for sale by its owner through a “sealed bid process”.
However, I just spoke to Mark Shapiro, President of BX.COM, Incorporated who told me he already has a bid of $272,000 for the two letter domain.
Mr. Shapiro also informed me that there is a trademark on the term which “is available to be purchased with it (actual legal expenses for the transfer will be charged to the purchaser)”
and that “The bidding closes June 15, 2011 – unless someone makes an unusually high bid.”
In the press release Mr. Shapiro writes:
“”both inside and outside of the US, have pursued the BX.COM domain over the years. Most recently, offers have come from the competitors of The Blackstone Group, whose stock symbol is BX, as well as from Chinese multinational corporations”
Here is the Press Release issued by BX.com

as you say, this domain has few practical uses, so, it’s not for all
.com says
There is no way to verify whether this is the case or not, but it seems that the note about offers coming from competitors of Blackstone is include in the hopes of inducing Blackstone to bid on the name.
That said, it is a two letter .com so it should sell for a nice amount.

I just sold HX.com today for $125,000 – maybe that was too cheap!
I can’t imagine anyone paying $272,000 for BX.com – seems too high to me.

Your rocking the six figure sales
Congrats

I’m curious to see HOW domains like HX or BX will be really used
Robert Cline says
This is one of the reasons why
LLL.CO
are especially valuable. Short domains are in high high demand.
Josh says
Having sold 4 LL .com I can testify that price is more than double reseller so whomever is offering $272k is likely an enduser. Not a lot of people/domainers in the world with the desire to invest $2XXk in a LL let alone that one.
George Kirikos says
I notice no one followed up on this, but BX.com is now owned by The Blackstone Group, although it went via MarkMonitor’s DNStination stealth buying unit first (see the historical WHOIS on June 29, 2011).
