Well I know there’s been a lot of discussion inside and outside the domain industry tonight on the Godaddy Super Bowl ads.
Love them or hate them, Godaddy says the two commercial they ran tonight on the Super Bowl are the most successful Super Bowl ads in their history in terms of response, traffic and sales.
According to a press release issued tonight a few hours after the game ended Godaddy Said:
“Our fourth-quarter commercial spiked our Internet traffic higher than any Super Bowl ad we’ve ever done … ever!
“And even better — calls, conversion and cash were off the charts! In fewer than 15 minutes after Go Daddy’s first Super Bowl commercial aired, our domain name registrations shot up more than 466 percent over last year.”
“Go Daddy’s first Internet traffic surge hit when the highly-anticipated GoDaddy.CO Girl was unveiled toward the end of the first quarter. The ad quickly helped push Go Daddy over the 46 million mark for domain names under management, which is more than any other registrar by far.”
“The idea was to show people they really can make their dreams come true on the Internet,” Parsons explained. “We wanted to do a Go Daddy Super Bowl commercial poking fun at our reputation and raising awareness for dotCO. This ad did it all … with a nice twist. And it definitely rocked the Internet!”
Juan Diego Calle, CEO and Founder of .CO Internet S.A.S. said in the same press release:
“This ad is working for us already. Almost immediately, we recorded a huge uptick in .CO domain name registrations.”
Go Daddy spiked Internet traffic with its second-half spot … and then some. “The Contract” spoofed Go Daddy’s reputation for over-the-top, edgy ads by pitting Go Daddy Girls Danica Patrick and Jillian Michaels at odds with Go Daddy executives over their contractual obligations for the commercial.
Within two minutes, viewers jumped to log on to GoDaddy.com, like never before. In fact, “The Contract” more than doubled the enormous Internet spike generated by Go Daddy’s 2008 Super Bowl ad, “Exposure.

I found the ad to be funny. Same response from my cousins who are not domainers. Sisters response was :s what is GoDaddy.
Robert Cline says
I loved it.
It was Perfect.
Joan Rivers was perfect.
Impressed into the memories of millions of people watching. Can’t for get it.
Indelibly etched into every single mind.
If it was a model, I think everyone would have forgotten it by now.
But this was so unexpected, so off the hook, that i peed my pants and dropped to the floor.

OUTRIGHT LIES? …
We were on the Phone to Godaddy
from Half time on till the end of the Game (i know first quarter, was the Ad)
and different Godaddys CSR’s “told us it was dead”
I myself asked at the Game End, if people have been waiting and
was told there was 16 in the Que but, they will expect some traffic tomorrow
and were glad they didn’t have to talk to the drunks tonight …
So was the Commercial a Super Flop?
Joan Rivers a hasben nutball? know mostly after trying to outdo
(Johhny Carson) … of the Johhny Carson show after he allowed her
to “Guest sit in” and she stabbed him in the back as she tried her
have her own show on the Fox network “THAT FLOPPED”
Every one i have spoke with said the Commercial was like a Bad Joke!
This .Co fabrication so far is the Internet SCAM of the Decade.

“466% Over Last Year”
Yea..here the breakdown
465 pigeonshi*t dot com domains
1 BS dot co domain
Numbers don’t lie.
Do you really think people register domains while they were watching superbowl?

And this had nothing to do with the price being lowered up to $22 a name….
Anunt says
466% from last year is for real.
Problem is…last year, they had only 2 registrations…this year they got about 10 registrations…so they are not lying!
Numbers dont lie.
If they really did have lots of new registrations…they would spit out a number and make it public…but they rather just tell you idiots 466% better than last years!
Don’t fall for that bullshit!
Dean says
“Within two minutes, viewers jumped to log on to GoDaddy.com, like never before”
That is as ridiculous statement as I have ever read. Keep spinning those yarns (press releases).

Hello Mike,
Like I said in my Blog , another slick presentation for sure, but what happens from here on out will in our opinion not be pretty for Domainers and many other investors.

Godaddy knows the power of a super bowl ad thats why Bob the owner said its not a gamble paying $3 million for 30 seconds when you know the results, This is the biggest launch the .co domains have had so far and most experts have said Godaddy has increased the value of .co domains by getting the more reconized i agree, Personally i have a one word generic .co with around 100 typins per day and this is no bull but my type in traffic went up 80% for that day i actually thought it was funny just seeing that. I will not reveal the one word generic but what i will say is i did only register a couple of .co’s and i made $7,200 in sales i have keped my best quality one. Good luck if you have grabbed some quality ones guys.

boring commercials.
and I cant believe someone who doesnt know whats a .co domain is would register one during the SB or right after it.

How many new registrations Juan? How many?

There is a big danger for both GDaddy and dot-CO registry to get sued in a massive class action if the .CO buyers feel misled because both GD and .co registry are not telling people exactly what they are buying:
————————————–
.co domains are for Colombia but now being sold as a repacked TLD to make money. period. It is like same old crap in a new bottle.
————————————–
Btw, wait when some of the .co buyers get hit with UDRP and ACPA lawsuits because many of these innocent buyers don’t have a clue how trademarks work when it comes to domains.
.CO is a trademark mine in my opinion because it looks like a typo of existing sites/domains in many cases.
These are just my opinions and I may be wrong.
But be careful before you buy .co
Remember the hype about mobi, .me, .crap 🙂

.CO is ASCII – A is for American ?

the commercial was live on godaddys site about 3 hours before the superbowl even aired.
I really want to know the exact number of newly registered .co domains as a result of this – not too concerned with a 400%+ increase – an actual number would be nice

@Chris,
Your picture creeps me out – not sure why. Please change it to ANYTHING else.
Thanks.

The only people rushing to buy a dot co last night were domain newbies and .co fanatics who got the NextGreatStupidIdeaNoOneWillBuy.co. (No offense Mr. Cline)
No real business person is going to rush online after a few beers and make such a purchase.
I am still optimistic, yesterday I bought up a few “CityAttorneys.co” and “CityRealEstate.co” for $7.49 and will watch them sell on Godaddy premium listing over the next few months.
The O.co was great for credibility and the i.co is the next big test.

Tons of half pissed people suddenly decided to go start an “Internet Business” (within 15 minutes) of seeing that CHEESY GoTacky ad.
No thought, No research, No Brain storming, No Planning – pfffttt, that’s going to work out just fine don’t ya think?
God help the economy if that’s all it takes.

The commercial was a dud.
Bafil says
What I see here is losers are frustrated because .CO is being advertised in an event with more than 100 million viewers. These losers are every day coming up with as reasons why people should not register or own .CO domain names, and one of these theories is that .CO domains are for Colombia but now being sold as a repacked TLD and that people would be sued because owning a .CO domain means an infringing with .COM domains. This can only be said by losers, who missed the .COM era and did not take advantage of .Co era when it was just launched. I know how regretful you are because .CO domains are already showing signs of success but you will regret more or be depressed to death when .CO extension surpasses .COM. .CO is an extension for Colombia, yes it is, but does it mean it can only be registered by colombians? That no American can register a domain name with a foreign country’s domain extension? The anser to this questions would explain how these losers are real losers. No matter what domain extension your domain names have, as long as they do not infringe with someone’s trademark then you are fine, nobody will sue you. And remember this: No generic name or word is approved for trademark, therefore it’s very important that you register generic names or a combination of names or words that are not a trademark. Go to trademark office website and check what name is already a trademark and which one is yet one.
Simon says
Bafil,
Nope…I bought 40+ .co domains. I’m just disappointed in the quality of the commercial, as I very much wish for my .co investments to pay off.
The commercial was an epic fail, IMHO.
Robert Cline says
It was a great commercial.
It had the perfect affect of:
Unforgetableness
Shock value that it wasn’t a 19 year old sexy girl
Conversation piece
.CO will not be forgotten after the bowl
Some of you expect too much from a 30 second commercial.
30 seconds is just enough to yawn. And the best thing is to SHOCK you.
In a good way. Persicely did that. That is why you are on here.
Pokerville.co says
@Robert,
The commercial was bad. I like .co and I’ve even bought a few for investment, but man, that commercial was a waste of cash – if anything, it may have reduced the aftermarket value of .co domains.
I’ve yet to talk to one person who thought the .co commercial was well-executed, and again, I’m NOT a .co hater – I actually think the extension has potential…just a bad commercial.

@Jodi,
They hit the ball all-right – and it went foul down the third-base line…a chubby kid who was slurping an oversized soda caught it with his bare hands, looked at the ball, and threw it back into play.
The commercial did not resonate in the manner desired by most. Hopefully, further marketing efforts will be better-executed and successful.

If they really want to get .co into the internet main stream then they should lower the price

What it did was promote domain names and ultimately the .com brand. Most people in a superbowl high would see/remember the “m” even though it may have not been there. imo.

Lot’s of experts here. Don’t let the facts get in the way of a good argument.
Fact is, it was memorable.
We’re all talking about the commercial. I’ve seen discussions on TV several times today (The View, Today Show). I heard people on radio talking about it this evening.
That and the #’s in the GoDaddy press release tell a pretty compelling story for .CO, GoDaddy and domain registration overall.
I guess it’s true what they say: Haters Gonna Hate.
