The domain name AY.com has just been listed at Flippa.com with a buy it now price of “just $2 Million Dollars”
According to the press release tonight that cited the recently reported sale of FB.com to Facebook for over $8 Million:
“As recently as a few months ago, Facebook purchased the domain name “FB.com” for $8.5 million.”
“”2-letter “dot com” domain names are so rare, it’s hard to find any recent sales records for them.””
“Today there was an auction posted on Flippa.com for the domain name, AY.com.”
“The domain, which was first registered in 1996, has a minimum bid of $79,999 with no reserve. ”
“The “buy it now” price is set at just about $2 million, which could be considered a great deal when compared to the recent sale of “FB.com” for $8.5 million.”
“Of course AY.com isn’t an acronym for the worlds largest social networking website, but it is still an extremely rare domain name.”
So if your interested the domain, it is for sale at no reserve with a starting bid of $79,999, but if you don’t want to take any chances you can just stroke out that check for $2 Million and claim this domain for yourself.

Bad move in adding a bin before bidding war started.

FB.com was clearly a sale to the perfect end user. No one else would have probably paid 1/10th of the price.
Here are some other similar LL.com sales reported since 2009 –
Jf com $101,000 Dec 10 Sedo
Ov com $200,000 Dec 10 Sedo
KF com $123,504 Dec 10 Sedo
XI com $100,930 Aug 10 Moniker

Shucks, just cut my last check 🙁

Seems to me to be a reasonable listing. Should be interesting to watch.

Two word or two letter .com domains set the market standard. There’s not many of them around, so it will be interesting to see the final price.
If I were a bidder, I would bid on the domain instead of purchasing it at a “buy it now” price. There is a lot of room to save money. $79,999 versus $2 million is a big difference.

“FB.com”
a VERY different thing 🙂
.
anyhow, can you imagine the value of a (possible) FB.mail domain?
$50 million?
Allen says
Wow, pretty crazy. You don’t see too many 2 letter pronounceable domain names. If the right company finds this, the seller may wish he didn’t list the buy it now at $2 million.

if someday Amazon and Yahoo will merge, AY.com will be their perfect domain 🙂

End user, skys the limit.
Reseller and considering recent activity, $125k -/+, 2 years ago I could have sold this for close to $2XXk+++ if I had it.
Sold 4 LL dot com in a short span a while back, this part of the reseller market has taken a hard hit as ” rarity ” doesnt seem to worth as much to resellers after a credit crisis.

this company may be interested to shorten its URL: AlwaysYoung.com > AY.com

FB.com sold for over $8 million recently, and YP.com sold for close to $4 million in 2008. If the rigth company finds this it could be well worth the $2 million buy it now. If I were the seller I would not have listed a buy it now because it could end up getting more.

but I’ve found just one A.Y. company
Gazzip says
Very nice domain with a very reasonable reserve, hopefully there will be some end users after it, good luck to him
Allen says
Yeah I don’t see all that many AY companies. There is a rather popular musicial who calls himself AY.COM
Wouldn’t this domain be perfect for him?
DOT mail TLD - a business many times bigger than .CO says
however, someone can start a brand new A.Y. company to use this domain at its best
something like … Atlantic Yachts … Appetible Yogurts … etc.

I wouldn’t compare AY.com to FB.com or YP.com. Facebook and Yellow Pages make a lot of money from advertising. These names are specific to these big online brands.
A buyer may come along, I highly doubt that the domain will go above $2 million. If the domain sells at the buy it now price, it will probably be because of a foreign investor.
Every domain is on a sale by sale bv basis. If Facebook didn’t purchase FB.com for that amount, then maybe another may have paid far less.

A name like this could have more meaning in countries in the Middle East (apparently it has specific meaning in Egypt). I am not sure what Flippa’s reach is at this time beyond the U.S. However, it is great to see more super premium domains on Flippa and I hope it’s reach grows. It would be helpful if they augment their search in order to accommodate many types of potential buyers,

It’s an acronym for About You. He should consider contacting About.me
