This one certainly has me scratching my head.
The domain according to Godaddy recevies around 2,500 visitors a month.
iPodder.com is a parked page and does not seem to have that much traffic.
Besides the possible trademark issues does this make sense to anyone?
Guess it must make sense to a few of you as 6 people bidding on this domain with 3 willing to pay over $20K.
Prosper says
another person flushing his money down the toilet. Makes no sense why someone would pay this price.
AVE4 says
“…already has a high bid of $25K with still over 6 days to go.”
Are those “bots” bidding ? or Sock.Puppets ?
Maybe that is $25K in Monopoly.Money ? in the Domain.Game ?
Robbie says
Yea, these are some of the typical weird auctions happening at godaddy for ridiculous domains.
Probably wanted the domain as it contained “ipod”, but otherwise I see no value.
dan says
It’s showing a toolbar page rank of 9 – which is why people are going a little crazy for it, although I suspect this is due to a previous redirect.
DNLingo says
I can’t even imagine that price tag for the .com version. Wow!!
MHB says
This domain was directed to podcastalley.com according to the waybackmachine.com
podcastalley.com has a PR 9
Bobby - Nameswing says
I typed in podder.com and guess what you get. It must have something to do with that.
Caution: It’s porno for those who are offended.
I’m going to get into trouble with my wife because I went to the site and she has the web monitored at our house… so, curiosity is gonna kill this cat!
Mr T says
It’s a waste of money. I’ve been watching the auction since it was in the low $x,xxx and the bids are completely out of control.
Markus says
Well take a look at the backlinks, the domain got some serious linkpower…
In case Google still “loves” the domain after the auction 25k are not that ridiculous.
Ron W. says
Appears that the site had something to do with podcasts:

domainer says
Pure madness but not as bad as .co speculation and hype
todaro says
i offered 7 million for ipodder.info but was turned down cold. sometimes even something you read on the internet is not always true… go figure.
BullS says
Well, whoever is bidding is not reading this blog.
Maybe it is Godaddy insiders to boast up the price!!!
BullS says
Maybe you can interview the new owner and ask why s/he bought that domain name.
Just like the guy that paid 62K for this domain name
http://www.searchengineoptimization.net/ and yet not doing anything.
Karan says
Absolutely Mr. Michael
ipodder mean the person who caries ipod with him/her… and count the figures that how many people around the globe own the ipod!
you will find $25K is less amount for this domain name.. domain owner would be foolish if he sells it less than that…
mike says
probably the owner shill bidding. the current owner still has 7 days after the auction ends to recover the name for $80 or so. they will likely do just that, and put it back on an auction site for 1k buy it now and will probably sell it.
people do this on occasion to pump and dump their own names. whenever i see a crappy domain like this for such a high price, this is exactly what it is.
em says
If you type “site: ipodder.org” into Google Search, you will see that it’s a legitimate domain with a legitimate PR and Google is and will treat it as such, hence the big price tag. The “site:” function lets you know if the juice is only pure redirect or is direct and in this case there is obviously some direct juice. PR 9s are definitely worth $25000 or more, BUT the TM risk is not. Stay away.
steve says
i suspect shill bidding.
But not the owner.
Probably two people working together so the first doesn’t sell it and the second gets it for $300
Chris says
This is extremely outrageous! I would have never assumed that this domain would bring such a high price. Now, I have another question. What happens if the buyer doesnt pay? I dont know if that happens often but I know it happens all the time in ebay and the buyer simply get a slap on the wrist with a strike. Im not too familiar with go-daddys non payment policy, but this could be the case – where someone just bids (or even shill bids) to get the price to an extreme amount – then never pays.
MHB says
Chris
From the buyers side if the higher bidder defaults then the second highest bidder gets the domain and so on.
What godaddy does to an defaulting buyer’s account currently, I’m not sure but I will reach out to them today for an answer
AVE4 says
@MHB
What stops a Registrar or Registry from “Making it all up” ?
Is there a landrush for South Carolina domains ?
“WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court (.SC) won’t decide who really owns the initials “SC”…The high court on Monday refused to hear an appeal from South Carolina, which wanted to trademark a baseball cap logo with the initials “SC.””
greg says
They are too many strange auctions happened at godaddy, you should know why
TalkingDotComs says
Thanks for posting this — I saw it hit 20,000 and thought maybe I was really, really bad at estimating worth.
Aggro says
Given the Chris Hartnett ID fraud story, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was some fraudster using a stolen credit card number.
Makes ya wonder about all those SN/Namejet/Pool expired drop auctions that bring in silly money….as if the bidder couldn’t spend the money fast enough…
Oh wait…
BMR says
Totally don’t get it as well. With such money you can buy so manu backlinks that you will be ranking for a great keyword not this garbage!
Wealthy Affiliate says
I’m really surprised so many domainers don’t understand why this has been bid up. It’s a PR9 with over 23k+ inlinks — with really high authority. PR9 is pretty rare and worth a lot on the text-link market.
One could easily make over $1k a month just in text link revenue with this domain.
Pritish says
Well I do not think its a waste of money. It has backlinks from PR6, PR5, PR4 and all other PRs.
I bet the buy out price will go above 50K.
Lucky will be the last name of the person who will get it.
Matt says
It sold for $46k, someone got a bargain here and if you don’t know why then stick with domaining 😉
Bruce Tedeschi says
Smells like a fraud to me
Svift says
In first time this domain has been won for $25K, and after 48 hours ipodder.org again was on sale at GoDaddy auction 🙂 Let’s look…
Bob says
There is really no mystery here as to the value of the domain – it is a LEGIT PR9 people.
With not one, not two, not three, but SEVEN PR9 pages! I have personally never seen a PR9 with any of the dropcatchers or auctions before so it is quite amazing. Yes, that is a veritable goldmine for an seo or link broker as EACH PR9 page could easily be worth 4-5k per month or more in recurring revenue. I was one of the last bidders but succumbed to deeper pockets or quite possibly, the original owner trying to get his domain back.
Fernando Hal says
After a month or two, PR 9 is worth nothing, will be back to PR 0 once Google catch up with the ownership change. The only way to make profit is to sell maximum number of links with max price in the first month.
Makis.TV says
As it seems it got listed on flippa and already has bids up to $22,5K
http://by.vg/m1eBj
Just 6 hours to go with a bin of $155K
