Well with the new gTLD looming group has stepped up and already announced the first conference to be dedicated to the new gTLD’s.
The conference should appeal to those seeking a new domain extension or those seeking to service or participate in them, including registrars, registries, and domain investors
The conference is called “nxt/The next Internet revolution” and will be held in San Francisco in February 2011 shortly before the ICANN meeting is held there. (exact dates have not been announced).
Former ICANN staffer Kieren McCarthy and Jothan Frakes are among the organizers of the show

No more extensions.
Most of them are crap as we well know. The new ones (from the lists that I have seen) are horrible that have no real purpose and probably wont price well because they are pointless.
The only thing that could possibly resolve from this is the watering down of the all domains.
Bahhh….
Just the way I see it.
Cheers

How do you propose to stop Microsoft with the .0 [dot zero] described in their PNRP* patents ?
Also, what about other platforms with FREE Top Level Domains ?
If 99% of the “cost” of a domain is collecting the money for it vs. hosting it, FREE domains may make more sense.
If the nano-cents required to host domains is built-into the Platform charges (i.e. the monthly Cable TV fees), then the consumer will not expect to pay $30 per year per domain… for something that costs 3 cents to manufacture.
* PNRP – Peer Name Resolution Protocol – Root-Less DNS

Best of luck with the conference.

@Cartoonz
You and Steve.JOBS ?
By the way, do Apple products resolve the domain STEVE.JOBS ?

Thanks for the plug, Mike!
It is really Kieren’s show. I had some spare time on my hands being unemployed and all which I thought I’d put to good use.
A little back story… I am a big supporter of the Internet Society (ISOC), having been a member since 2004, and recently joined as a regional member of the San Francisco Internet Society who are hosting the conference. Having a little experience with launching the DomainFest and DomainRoundTable conferences, I felt obliged to volunteer and share some experience.
The conference is really shaping up, there’s a strong registration base of applicants and registry service providers already signed up, and some frankly amazing moderators and guests already lined up.
Obviously, as I look at the comments so far (thanks for the brave support @aaron), it’s not for everyone, but it will be a valuable experience for those who would seek to have an elevated understanding of (and thus better understanding on how to benefit from) the upcoming open rounds of application for new TLDs.
For those who seek a closer nexus to how a domain entrepreneur can benefit from the upcoming rounds if they are not seeking to apply for a TLD, there will also be a TRAFFIC ICANN Retreat on March 10-11 in San Francisco, which is at the front end of ICANN’s 40th Meeting in the same city (Excelsior! Brilliant move Rick and Howard!).
Folks looking for ways to make their mark as the New TLDs come to market have a lot of options available to them.
I look forward to seeing you and Judy at these shows, Mike, and thank you again for the mention!
