A couple of “bedding” .com domain names sold over at NameJet.com producing the highest sales on that auction platform in quite a while.
(I know with all the discussion on .Co domains it may come as a shock that people are also still buying .com domains).
BedSheets.com sold for a whopping $48K.
Honestly I was in that auction up through around $25K.
I was going to use the traffic from the domains to point to our DiscountBedding.com or LuxuryBedding.com sites, but I don’t think that domain was brandable as it only concentrated on that one product.
At that sales price, bedsheets.com cost more than 2x the amount we paid for discountbedding.com just a little over a year ago.
Another “bedding” domain, BedLinens.com sold on NameJet.com today for $22,322, we were in that one up to around $20K.
Like BedSheets.com, I didn’t think BedLinens was that brandable of a stand alone site, but they would have been a nice addition to our existing sites
However at the end of the day, we passed on both and enjoyed seeing our current properties get a nice bump up in fair market value based on two new comps.
So that’s over $70k for two .com bedding domains, and yes the same buyer got both of them.
Congrats to the buyer.
In other NameJet.com notable sales:
castnet.com sold for $4,577; visualizationsoftware.com sold for $4,655 and concordance.com went for $6,221
Mackintosh.com sold for $5,350 and a domain that will be lost if a UDRP is filed, zachbraff.com went for $2,088.

I was in the bedsheets.com auction as well, went in there up to $15K, didn’t know what the final price was, wow, not sure if it’s worth the $48K, but I certainly wouldn’t have gone higher than $20K for sure!

I picked up bedbathbedding.com for $60 the other day at pool, hopefully it trickles down to the longtails!

I was watching this one with interest. DanRiver.com used to own both of these domains, as well as flatsheet.com which went for $89. The danriver.com domain dropped a couple of months ago and someone else had snapped it up and parked the site. I had the feeling that the new owner of danriver.com would get wise and re-register the domains using the old danriver.com admin email.
By the looks of things a fair few others caught onto this as well and some had made offers for Danriver.com, i’m assuming in hope of being able to recreate the old email address. Its currently showing 6 offers and a minimum of $10,000. The new owner of danriver.com, probably didnt understand why there was so much interest in this domain.
Lastly, are you sure it was the same buyer, from what I can see it was two different NJ accounts.

If the domains had been offered thru Rick Latona daily
offerings or Moniker’s Domainfest auction, they probably
would only generate 10% of what they brought today.

I don’t think that the same buyer got both those domains as the handle for the winners is different.

Bedsheets.com is a great name. The sale price of $48k was rather steep. An online store that pushes any type of sheets will definitely have an advantage. Thanks for sharing the story.

If I could afford bedsheets.com, I wouldn’t pay more than $15k for the domain. The domain would have to generate at least 1 million average keyword results and more than 12K in searchex to make the sale worthwhile.
Anyone know how much traffic the domain generates per month?

Interesting, I just picked up two sets of bed sheets @ overstock few weeks ago. Also got me a curtain liner thanks to that Namus Famus guy who gave me a $25 gift card. Well, I won it in their give away, but anyways…
