Google announced through its blog that it’s Nexus One phone has stopped production and Google will stop selling the Nexus One, saying that the next shipment of the phones will be the last.
“This week we received our last shipment of Nexus One phones. Once we sell these devices, the Nexus One will no longer be available online from Google. Customer support will still be available for current Nexus One customers.”
The Announcement of the introduction of the Nexus One phone caused a stir in the domain world and we covered it with a few posts, here, here, here and here.
We noted back in January of this year, when this product was just announced, that an individual in Portland Oregon owned the domain Nexusone.com.
We asked at the time if the registrant had hit the “domain name lottery”.
It seems the same person in Portland still owns the domain.
Who knows if Google tried to acquire the domain and how much the owner may have turned down for the domain which now goes back to the pool of “just another domain”.
Besides the trademark issues, this short lived product points out some of the dangers of jumping on the new product bandwagon.
Sometimes even the biggest companies fail and if you tied yourself to them you might fail along side them.
Also if you turn down a offer for a domain involving a new or hot product, it maybe the only one you ever receive for it in your life.

it’s clear that consumers don’t like any GooglePhone nor any MS-Phone/KIN… could it happen also with the Google ChromePad and ChromePC ???

fortunately, I haven’t wasted money to register KIN-related or NexusOne-related domains… 🙂

“Turn down an offer and you may NEVER see another one again”
This is especially true for brandable names

Its too bad actually. The Nexus One is still a great phone and quite possibly the fastest phone so far with its JIT compiler.
I read this article about why this new marketing strategy was such a failure. You can check it out at http://getyourgadgetsgoing.com/2010/05/17/google-takes-nexus-one-back-to-the-basics/

I bought the phone in early January; I believed I couldn’t go wrong given the specs- and I didn’t. Thee specs are still competitive with new phones just coming out and the Nexus is nearly half a year old. When you look at how fast things are being outdated, that’s huge. Take the incredible for example. I convinced a friend to pick it up and it felt like two days later it was shelved for new products. I also like the vanilla google experience and I’ll hopefully be one of the first to get gingerbread. Still happy with my choice! Love the Nexus.

Google has ruined the entire internet with it’s system. I would never buy anything from that !@$% company. Go ahead put up a blog about a company and rip them to pieces and see if google will remove it, It happened to me and 3 years later the post still sits there and my business is ruined. Google won’t sell anything other than its stupid get me to the top first system.

Mike; my “Me thinks you may need another blog rule, Mike: No more URL shorteners.” comment was directed to posters like “Scoop,” above; who use “services” like bit.ly to hide their real links & websites in the hope that your readers will click on them due to the curiosity factor.
