dcmike77 says
Yea, Mike. I’m surprised you’re recommending any of these. I can’t remember the last time a .eu sold for anything worthwhile.
Alan says
You actually have picks for .eu domains? And I thought you were an uber-domainer 🙂
Love ya man but I agree with DC mike – complete, utter garabage this extension. Not a single domain worth anything.
$500 for every name in the auction as a group is still $500 more than anyone should pay.
premium LCD domains says
3G.eu seems interesting for a virtual cellphone provider
Vim says
Goes to show how much you guys know about .eu domains.
I recently sold an .eu domain for over 5000$ and last another for about 3500$.
But I guess you all of you cannot be wrong so if you want to get rid of any eu’s then please let me know.
🙂
Robbie says
Two of my names are in the list of your picks… Let’s hope they sell….
Peter says
@Vim: Send me an email and I will send you a list. Thanks.
Rick Latona says
Guys, the minimum bid is only 500 Euro. Man, there are a lot of haters. As far as speculative investments go, this is easy stuff. You are supposed to hold these names for a decade. Europe is the world’s largest economy.
I’ve said enough.
Stefan says
Yes Europe is world’s largest economy and it have strong .com .co.uk .de .fr .es .pl .nl….. I can’t remember that I was on any popular .eu site.
With 500-1000 euros you can still buy decent .com 🙂
Stefan says
P.S I would really like to see some .in/.co.in in some future auctions.
premium LCD domains says
“Europe is the world’s largest economy.”
and the 2nd as currency
.
Alan says
Rick
And .Asia has the world’s largest population – yada yada yada.
For anybody reading this lets look at the facts. No single person I know or anybody you know(whoever is reading this) off the top of thier head can name 5 sites in the world that have a .eu extension online – This is an extension killed by domainers in my opinion. Almost every good one is owned by a domainer meaning the percentage of developed sites (whic is key to branding) is practically non-existent thus the extension has never and will never take off.
Yes, there are haters however I would prefer to call them commentators – nobody is going to love any auction or extension and the reference here is moreso why would Mike actually recommend these rather than people “hating” your auction.
A lot of people – including me – like your new format but because people comment on one extension they are haters? Seems a little over dramatic and defensive to me.
.Asia and .EU were pumped just as glorius as .CO is today – its the same set of press releases day after day.
Rick – you have stated before your main (or only) goal in this industry is to sell names.
People – Never take speculative advice from a salesman.
No offense Rick – a fan of the daily auction format you have going and hope it works well for you but sorry – can’t use logic to put value to every extension. Some simply have none.
Jody says
I’m not going to argue the value of any domains but people should realize there is a whole other world besides super premium domains. You don’t see every car auction selling lamborghinis and maseratis. If this were the case, you would have 1 auction a year. There are over 200 million developed websites on the internet, so even if you have the 10,000th best domain, that is an advantage over other websites and there is value there.
Alan says
Jody,
You are correct about cars however even a Pinto probably has a firesale liquid value of 50% of the book value.
These silly extensions like .eu do not have liquid value let alone any book value. Sure, buy one you might get 20% of what you paid in a firesale. Buy a bunch – we are talking about pennies on the dollar if you’re lucky to find a buyer.
.com .net or .org – there you have a liquid portfolio for investors with the right names.
Obviously you have a vested interest in .eu and like other supporters of these terrible extensions you like to claim we are all thinking superior to you guys but its not about anyone thinking the world is flat and only ends with super premium names.
Its about good business.
The upside to a domain is only one factor – the liquidity factor on the wholesale market is another.
Anyone can buy one domain and make a few bucks.
Look past the single sales and that will define the state of the extension as a whole.
As Stefan said – With 500-1000 euros you can still buy a decent .com — then a good businessman would choose the comparable investment which has a greater liquid value and long term potential rather than gamble on speculative investments here.
The difference between investing in .TV’s, .EU’s vs .com’s etc is the difference between investing and gambling.
Again, doesn’t matter to me what you do – but there are just not “lovers” and haters” in this industry. There are smart investors and fools — big difference.
Jody says
It is puzzling what people like sometimes. I much rather have a .com .net .org too but I was more defending the fact that people seem to have a problem with every auction nowadays. Not everyone is going to have a smartphones.com at no reserve. People should realize there are many other ways to make money and I was not really disagreeing with you, although it did kind of come off like that.
Alan says
No worries – Even if you do disagree with me thats fine, nothing personal.
Your quote “It is puzzling what people like sometimes” – ya, look at DNJournal every week – quite entertaining to try and find logic there. Almost 50% of names sold every week I’m willing to bet you, I and almost anybody else would not even register.
This whole business is screwy – my point was just stick to the ones with the best combination of liquid value and upside potential. Gamble where you want to but don’t fall in love with any extension outside of the top 3 and a couple country codes like .co.uk
Rest are all in the same pattern – waiting for something to happen, with more going in the que every year. As for people complaining – sure, a lot of duds in this business who want to have a voice but probably made less than 10k thier entire life in this industry. Though the number of auctiosn happening sure do not help either 🙂
Jody says
True but as much as I dislike eu I think the comments were a little harsh to the publisher who imo truly is one of the smartest domain investors. I would not discount the chance of any extension taking off, so for someone that can afford to diversify a small % of their money in others extensions isn’t so bad.
MHB says
Guys
This is a major auction at a major domain conference so of course I’m going to cover it.
There is value in .eu.
How to spend your money and what to invest in is always the question.
However I do believe there are domains on this list that you can buy for $650 a sell for a lot higher
Alan says
You are correct – Mike is probably one of the top 10 domain investors in the world and also a good friend but note he never said he was bidding – just some favorites 🙂
Anyway – not about Mike, he just posted a list. The real issue was the opinion on .eu’s and i think we have the differences in opinion covered. Seeya – have to move on with my day, nice to argue before coffee all the same lol.
Alan says
I must learn how to read. The .eu auction is at TRAFFIC — thanks Mike for noting this, honestly thought it was just another daily auction thing at Latona’s. Way too many auctions going on.
Vim says
Peter,
It would help if you gave me your email address so that I can mail you and ask for your eu list. Did visit your which is a parked page – not very professional.
Rick,
Agree with your assessment. I live in Europe and cannot afford to get .com or .net or .de or co.uk at a silly price – so .EU are the perfect alternative.
Everyone else,
Anyone who thinks otherwise – I will be happy to consider your .eu domains at less 500 Euros as you obviously think its overpriced :-).
Cheers,
Vim
Stefan says
@Mike
Yes I also believe that there is value in .eu although I don’t like that extension very much.
The problem is that in my opinion premium .eu domains are hotels.eu, cars.eu, news.eu, football.eu etc. and they absolutely have value , but if I want to speculate with .eu I will pay 10$ for something like HalloweenCostumes.eu not 650$. In that list there are maybe 5 domains with some value now imo.
I will stay at .com 🙂
Best Regards.
Jim says
Do not underestimate the value of .eu domains, there are big transactions taking place regularly.
However, the quality in the auction is not great, while “Diapers” in the US means big money, in english speaking part of EU they are referred to as “Nappies”. Also, the domains in the EU that tend to sell for good money are domains that transverse the various EU languages and have a commerce related theme.
There are large price variances across the EU that make selling goods and services more profitable that other trading blocs.
Sin says
@ Rick Latona, Enough of YADA YADA YADA.
I still believe this is WASTE OF MONEY!!!!
LMAO @ .eu auctions and minimum bid is 500 eu. Have fun making money off suckers!!
Peter says

Stefan says
And the results are….

Professional.eu and Professionals.eu 600 €
Progressive.eu 600 €
SellGold.eu 500 €
Teeth.eu 600 €
Diapers.eu 500 €
And? 🙂
Alan says
Funny – this is not an auction – Its a buy it now sale. Need 2 people for an auction lol.
Oh well, hopefully he has luck with all his other auctions – Gotta give the guy credit for trying all kinds of things.
Louise says
This should be a comment on the Addicted to Internet post: I’m going to miss Ron Jackson’s recap – looks like there are lots of interesting speakers: http://www.targetedtraffic.com/milan/schedule.php It’s like withdrawels; there’s a domain event, but no recap.
The future of these conferences should be we get to be hooked in to the lectures! I would pay $50.00/day to listen in, if the sound quality is good. That way, we could be selective! It’s not the same as being there, could account of the difference in price.
Interpreters.eu is a goldmine to the developer! 700 EU is cheap!
MHB says
We will be putting up our picks for the premier auction around 9:30 tonight
Come back for all the fun
Sin says
Rick Now agrees with us , Read Rick’s comment, he also now agree with someone comment which is like
“That’s b/c .eu does not represent anyone specific….instead a region. It’s a bogus extension.
Like saying .na for North Americans……it holds no weight or resonance with anyone.”

So well, doesnt Rick already knew it before, lol, I guess he is not stupid investing in this tld, he is smart domainer, and know how to make money.
Nobody's Fool says
Goldman Sachs was selling worthless bonds to shareholders, knowing they were worthless and even betting against them while laughing all the way to the bank. Investors were still buying these bonds, solely based on Sachs reputation, until the bottom fell out. It never ceases to amaze me how people will blindly follow someone right off the face of a cliff.
